How Many Years for Office Chair Depreciation

Admin October 10, 2026

The depreciation period for office chairs is typically 5 years. Here is a detailed explanation of the depreciation period for office chairs:

According to the regulations of the 'Enterprise Income Tax Law Implementation Regulations', there are clear classifications for the minimum depreciation periods for calculating fixed asset depreciation. Among them, various ancillary equipment inseparable from buildings and structures, as well as transportation means other than airplanes, trains, and ships, and electronic equipment, etc., all have their respective minimum depreciation periods. Office chairs, as office furniture, fall under the category of 'instruments, tools, furniture, etc. related to production and business activities' specified in the regulations, and their minimum depreciation period is clearly set at 5 years.

This regulation provides a clear basis for enterprises when calculating fixed asset depreciation. By depreciating office chairs in accordance with this regulation, enterprises can accurately calculate costs and reasonably reflect the value depreciation of assets. In accounting practice, enterprises usually calculate the annual depreciation amount by adopting appropriate depreciation methods (such as the straight-line method, double-declining balance method, etc.) based on factors such as the purchase cost of office chairs, the expected useful life (not less than the minimum depreciation period), and the expected net residual value.

For example, if an enterprise purchases a batch of office chairs worth 10,000 yuan with an expected net residual value of 1,000 yuan, and calculates depreciation using the straight-line method over a minimum depreciation period of 5 years, the annual depreciation amount is (10,000 - 1,000) รท 5 = 1,800 yuan. In this way, the enterprise can include this depreciation expense in costs during each accounting period, thereby more accurately reflecting its business performance and financial position.

It should be noted that although a minimum depreciation period is specified, enterprises can also determine a longer depreciation period within a reasonable range based on actual circumstances, but it shall not be lower than the statutory minimum period.
