Office Chair Deodorization

Admin October 08, 2026

Deodorizing office chairs requires targeted methods based on whether they are newly purchased, have been used for a long time with odors, or have different materials. Details are as follows:

Deodorizing Newly Purchased Office Chairs

  1. Plant Absorption Method: Plants such as cacti, spider plants, and aloe vera can absorb harmful substances like formaldehyde through photosynthesis, aiding in air purification. It is recommended to place these plants near the office chair, but be mindful of matching the number of plants with the space to avoid excessive density that may affect ventilation.
  2. Activated Carbon Adsorption Method: Activated carbon has a well-developed pore structure and strong adsorption capacity for harmful substances like formaldehyde and benzene. Place an appropriate amount of activated carbon based on the size of the office area (e.g., 1-2 kg per 10ใŽก), with smaller particles being more effective. Regular replacement (every 1-2 months) is necessary to prevent secondary release after saturation.
  3. Ventilation: Position the office chair in a well-ventilated area and open windows and doors to accelerate air circulation, quickly reducing odor concentration. This method is cost-effective but requires several days of continuous ventilation until the odor significantly diminishes.
  4. Auxiliary Masking Method: In the short term, tea leaves, pomelo peels, or white vinegar steam can be used to mask odors, but they cannot decompose harmful substances and should be combined with other methods.

Deodorizing Office Chairs with Sweat or Mold Odors from Long-Term Use

  1. Ventilation and Sun Exposure: On sunny days, move the chair outdoors for 1-2 hours of sun exposure to kill bacteria and eliminate odors using ultraviolet light. Note: For leather or delicate fabric chairs, reduce sun exposure time to prevent fading or cracking.
  2. Adsorption and Purification: Sprinkle baking soda powder on the cushion or around the chair (let it sit for several hours before vacuuming), or place activated carbon packs to adsorb odor molecules.
  3. Neutralization and Cleaning: Wipe the chair surface with a 1:1 diluted white vinegar solution to neutralize acidic sweat odors and inhibit bacteria. After wiping, use a damp cloth to clean up residual vinegar odor and ensure thorough drying.

Special Cleaning Techniques for Different Material Office Chairs

  1. Fabric/Upholstery:
    • Removable fabric covers can be machine washed directly; for non-removable ones, first use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust, then wipe stains with a neutral cleaner or white vinegar solution. For stubborn odors, use a fabric cleaner for deep treatment, ensuring thorough drying afterward.
    • Maintain ventilation daily, place activated carbon packs to absorb moisture, or spray a small amount of white vinegar to alleviate odors.
  2. Leather/Leatherette:
    • Prioritize ventilation and sun exposure, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent leather aging.
    • Use a dedicated leather cleaner to wipe the surface, apply leather conditioner after removing stains to form a protective film that reduces odor adsorption.
    • Regularly wipe dust with a dry cloth, keep the leather dry to prevent mold growth.
