Office Chair Demand

Admin October 08, 2026

In 2024, the global and Chinese office chair industries are experiencing growth in demand, with consumer preferences shifting towards mid-to-high-end and personalized options.

From a global perspective, the demand for office chairs in 2024 reached 4,850.5 million units. Against the backdrop of steady global economic recovery, corporate expansion and the emergence of new office spaces have become the primary drivers, directly boosting procurement demand for office chairs. This trend reflects the continuous expansion of global office scenarios, providing a stable market foundation for the industry.

As the world's largest producer and exporter of office chairs, China has a significant market demand. In 2024, there are two statistical approaches to the size of China's office chair industry market: the narrowly defined market size is approximately RMB 10.185 billion, while another data point indicates RMB 25.332 billion. This discrepancy may stem from differences in statistical scope or data sources, but both indicate that China's market accounts for over 60% globally, highlighting its central position. The primary driving forces are sustained domestic economic growth and accelerated urbanization, particularly in Zhejiang Province, a core industrial region, where demand reached approximately RMB 377 million in 2024. This demand is mainly driven by urbanization, office building expansions, and companies' emphasis on office environment comfort. Among these, procurement by enterprises, public institutions, and government agencies dominates, reflecting the standardized demand for office facilities in the public sector.

At the consumer level, comfort and personalization have become key drivers. With the diversification of office scenarios, consumers' functional requirements for office chairs have significantly increased:

  1. Increased demand for ergonomic design: Users with different heights, leg lengths, and sitting habits have varying requirements for dimensions and adjustment ranges. For example, the seat height needs to accommodate natural foot placement, and the seat depth should leave space for the back of the knees; taller individuals need to pay attention to the backrest height and headrest adjustment range to ensure neck support.
  2. Segmentation of usage scenarios: In a formal sitting office scenario, the support provided by lumbar supports, seat cushions, and armrests becomes a core metric; for reclining rest scenarios, attention should be paid to the backrest movement range and base adjustment methods to achieve multi-angle support.
  3. Differentiated material preferences: Mesh materials are favored for their breathability, suitable for long-term use scenarios; foam seat cushions meet personalized comfort needs through varying degrees of softness and enveloping feel.

This trend is driving an increase in sales of mid-to-high-end office chairs, requiring companies to meet users' dual pursuit of functionality and comfort through technological means such as modular design and adjustable components.
