Office Chair Deformation Repair

Admin October 17, 2026

Repairing a deformed office chair requires targeted measures based on the specific deformed part and type. Here are solutions to common problems:

If the office chair tilts to one side, first check the condition of the wheels. Place the chair upright and upside down, observing whether the wheels make even contact with the ground. After inverting, check for signs of damage on the wheel feet. If the wheels are damaged, purchase matching new wheels for replacement. If the wheels are intact and the ground is level, then inspect the seat plate. Lay the chair on its side and locate the metal seat plate at the bottom of the seat (usually a square black painted steel plate connected to a single-leg cylindrical column), checking for deformation or looseness.

If the seat or backrest frame is deformed, handle it according to the material. For a wooden frame that is deformed, moisten the deformed area with hot water and then press it with a heavy object for 24 hours until it returns to its original shape. For a plastic or metal frame that is deformed, replace it with a frame of the same model or temporarily reinforce it with high-strength tape (for emergency use only).

Repairing a sunken office chair cushion requires different approaches depending on the situation. For mild sinking (local depression < 1 cm), try the following methods:

  1. Gently pat or knead the sunken area to help the internal filling regain its fluffiness.
  2. For mesh cushions, adjust the fixing straps underneath by tightening the screws or re-tensioning the straps to restore support.
  3. Place a wooden board or cardboard under the cushion to enhance support.
  4. If the deformation is due to moisture, move the chair to a well-ventilated area to dry (avoid direct sunlight).
  5. For foam cushions, remove the outer fabric, add or replace professional filling material, and then re-seal it.
For severe sinking (when sitting causes the legs to be "scooped up", support fails, the material is irreversibly relaxed, or the repair cost exceeds 50% of the chair's original price, the chair has been used for over 3 years, or the frame is damaged), it is recommended to directly replace the cushion or the entire chair.

If the office chair wobbles due to a problem with the gas lift, replace it with a gas lift of the same specification and choose a product with safety certification to prevent lifting malfunctions. When replacing, ensure the new gas lift matches the chair model to avoid safety hazards caused by incompatible specifications.
