Office Chair Deformation
Office chair deformation requires targeted handling based on the specific cause. Common causes and solutions are as follows:

1. Tilt and deformation caused by wheels or chair legs
If the wheels do not contact the ground evenly when the chair is placed upright or upside down, it may be due to bent or deformed wheel legs. In this case, the chair will tilt towards the damaged wheel. Check whether all wheels rotate smoothly without jamming. If a wheel is damaged, purchase a new one that matches the specifications of the original wheel for replacement, ensuring it is securely installed. If the chair leg (such as a five-claw wheel base) is deformed, contact the manufacturer to replace the base or the entire chair leg structure.
2. Deformation of wooden boards (seat or backrest boards)
The core reason is the imbalance between the wood's moisture content and the humidity of the usage environment.
- Slight bending or warping: The heavy-pressure method can be used for correction. Place the convex side of the deformed wooden board face down on a hard, flat floor or tabletop. Evenly place heavy objects (such as thick books, bricks, or sandbags) on it and press continuously for 3 to 7 days to gradually restore the wood fibers to a flat state.
- Significant bending: Combine the moistening and heating method. First, cover the concave side (the opposite side of the deformation) of the wooden board with a wet towel to soften the wood fibers, and then proceed with the heavy-pressure method. Ensure the degree of moistening is moderate to avoid excessive soaking that could cause wood rot.
- Severe twisting or cracking: If the wooden board cannot be restored through correction, evaluate the repair value. If the repair cost is close to or exceeds the replacement cost, it is advisable to directly replace the seat or backrest board.
3. Imbalance in the support structure or design flaws
Some office chairs are designed with a built-in 5ยฐ-10ยฐ forward tilt angle to accommodate human movement. However, excessive forward tilt may be caused by the following reasons:
- Loose chassis screws: Check whether the M8 hexagon socket screws at the connection between the five-claw wheel and the seat cushion are tightened. If they are loose, use a dedicated tool to adjust them to the appropriate tightness.
- Ineffective adjustment of the backrest spring: Rotate the backrest resistance knob to increase or decrease the spring tension so that the backrest's rebound force meets the usage requirements.
4. Deformation due to material aging
Nylon chair legs may undergo 1-3mm deformation after long-term compression, creating a forward-tilt hazard. It is recommended to use a level every six months to check the tilt of the chair surface. If the error exceeds the safety standard of 3ยฐ, replace the gas rod or the seat. Aging of the gas rod may cause instability in the height of the chair surface. Choose a new product that matches the specifications of the original gas rod for replacement.
