Office Chair Definition

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chairs are various types of chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities, with the English term being 'office chair'. They can be understood from both a narrow and a broad perspective:

Narrow perspective: It specifically refers to 'backrest chairs used when sitting upright'. These chairs are usually designed with ergonomic backrests that provide support for the user's back, helping to maintain correct sitting posture and reduce fatigue caused by prolonged sitting work. Their seats are generally flat, and the height and angle can be adjusted appropriately according to the user's needs to adapt to different work scenarios and physical conditions. For example, in work positions that require long-term focused writing or computer operation, these narrowly defined office chairs can provide comfortable support for users and improve work efficiency.

Broad perspective: It encompasses all types of seating found in offices, including executive chairs, mid-level manager chairs, reception chairs, staff chairs, conference chairs, visitor chairs, and training chairs. Executive chairs are typically used by senior management personnel in companies. They have a luxurious design, often using high-end leather or fabric materials, with large seats and backrests that provide a more comfortable sitting experience and a higher status symbol. Mid-level manager chairs are suitable for middle management personnel. In terms of design and materials, they are slightly inferior to executive chairs but still meet daily work requirements. Reception chairs are mainly used for receiving visiting guests. Their design emphasizes aesthetics and comfort and is usually coordinated with the overall decoration style of the office. Staff chairs are used by ordinary employees. There are many of them and they focus more on practicality and cost-effectiveness. Conference chairs are used in conference rooms to facilitate seating for participants during meetings. They are generally designed simply for easy movement and arrangement. Visitor chairs are prepared for temporary visitors and are usually placed in reception areas or public areas. Training chairs are used in training settings. They are lightweight and foldable, making it easy to adjust flexibly according to the number of trainees.
