Office Chair Cylinder Welding
The welding of office chair cylinders requires different methods based on the material, as detailed below:

For steel cylinders (including high-carbon steel or high-alloy steel), a combined process of TIG welding for root pass + arc welding for cover pass should be used. First, use WEWELDING600TIG TIG welding wire for root pass welding. Its advantages lie in the stable arc and concentrated heat of TIG welding, which can form high-quality root welds and reduce the risks of porosity and cracking. Subsequently, use WEWELDING600 alloy steel electrodes for cover pass treatment. These electrodes have excellent crack resistance and post-weld strength, ensuring the cylinder maintains structural stability during long-term load-bearing or frequent lifting operations. During welding, pay attention to controlling the interpass temperature to avoid a decline in material properties due to local overheating.
For cast iron cylinders, a cold welding process should be adopted, and WEWELDING777 cast iron electrodes should be selected. Cast iron has a high carbon content and is brittle. Traditional welding is prone to cracking due to thermal stress, while WEWELDING777 electrodes, through special formulation design, are compatible with various types of cast iron, such as gray cast iron and ductile cast iron. Their cold welding characteristics allow direct operation without preheating and post-weld heat preservation, reducing heat input through low current and short arc welding. Meanwhile, the nickel element in the electrodes can lower the cooling rate of the molten pool, inhibit the formation of white iron structure, and thus avoid weld embrittlement. After welding, use an angle grinder to clean up the spatter and check whether the weld surface is flat. If necessary, perform slight grinding.
Key precautions:
- Material identification is a prerequisite and can be initially determined through magnetic testing (steel parts are magnetic, while cast iron has weak magnetism).
- Before welding, thoroughly clean the oil stains and oxide scale on the cylinder surface to prevent impurities from affecting weld quality.
- After welding steel parts, it is recommended to perform stress relief annealing (holding at 200-300ยฐC for 1-2 hours) to eliminate residual stress.
- If micro-cracks appear after welding cast iron, they can be repaired by weld overlay with WEWELDING777 electrodes, but the repair area should be controlled to not exceed 20% of the original weld.
