Office Chair Cylinder Replacement
Office chair cylinder replacement can be completed through the following steps. Exercise caution and ensure all necessary tools are available:

I. Prepare a New Cylinder
You need to purchase a cylinder of the appropriate model in advance. You can buy a 4-stage cylinder for about 25 yuan on e-commerce platforms (such as Taobao), or go to offline computer desk and chair sales stores to make a selection. Be sure to choose a model that matches the size and load-bearing capacity of the original cylinder to avoid installation failures or safety hazards due to non-compliant specifications.
II. Remove the Old Cylinder
- Unscrew the Cylinder Cover Screws Use an Allen wrench or an electric screwdriver (air screwdriver) to loosen the fixing screws on the cylinder cover. If the screws are rusted due to long-term use, you can spray a small amount of rust remover to help loosen them. Keep the cylinder vertical during operation to prevent internal parts from falling out.
- Separate the Cylinder Cover from the Valve Plate After the screws are completely loosened, carefully remove the cylinder cover and the valve plate. Mark the direction of the valve plate to avoid incorrect orientation during subsequent installation, which could lead to abnormal air pressure.
- Heat to Remove the Old Cylinder Use a hairdryer or a hot air gun to heat the screws at the connection between the cylinder and the seat for more than 5 minutes. This will cause the metal to expand and reduce the tightening force of the screws. Then use an Allen wrench to unscrew the screws. Keep a safe distance during heating to avoid burns or damage to the seat material.
III. Install the New Cylinder
- Replace the Cup and Seals Install the cup (rubber seal) of the new cylinder in place, ensuring there is no distortion or damage. The cup is a key component to prevent air pressure leakage, so check its elasticity and fit.
- Prevent Screw Loosening Apply a small amount of high-temperature-resistant glue (such as thread locker) on the surface of the screws to enhance the fixing effect and prevent them from loosening and popping out during use. The amount of glue should be moderate to avoid overflow and contamination of the inside of the cylinder.
- Install the Valve Plate in the Correct Direction Install the valve plate back in the direction marked during disassembly, ensuring that the air inlet hole is aligned with the internal channel of the cylinder. Incorrect orientation will lead to air pressure regulation failure or the inability of the chair to rise and fall.
IV. Test and Adjust
After installation, reinstall the cylinder into the seat base and test whether the lifting function works normally through the air pressure rod. If there is stuttering or air leakage, recheck the seal of the cup or the tightness of the screws. It is recommended to regularly check the stability of the cylinder after the first use to extend its service life.
