Office Chair Cylinder Repair
There are mainly several methods for repairing office chair cylinders, including using hose clamps, using PVC pipes, replacing the cylinder, and repairing leaking cylinders.

Repairing with hose clamps: First, slide the plastic skirt down from the cylinder to expose the metal cylinder and adjust the chair to the appropriate height. If the plastic skirt covers the cylinder body, remove the skirt first. Then, wrap a hose clamp around the cylinder. To improve the grip of the clamp, you can wrap rubber bands, tape, or sand the cylinder with sandpaper. Tighten the clamp as much as possible and test the chair height. If it is incorrect, move the clamp position; if the clamp slips, secure it with a rubber strip. This method is suitable for cases where the lifting function of the cylinder is partially impaired, and the chair height is fixed by increasing friction.
Repairing with PVC pipes: First, measure the diameter and length of the chair cylinder and purchase a PVC pipe of the appropriate size (the same diameter as the cylinder or slightly larger, with 1.5 inches being suitable for most models). Secure the pipe in a vise and saw it from one end to the other with a hacksaw or reciprocating saw, making a longitudinal cut on only one side. It is recommended to wear a mask or respirator during cutting. Finally, slide the pipe over the chair cylinder so that the cut side is clamped around the cylinder. This method restricts the expansion and contraction of the cylinder by adding external support and is suitable for cases where the cylinder is not severely damaged but cannot be fixed at the correct height.
Replacing the cylinder: Place the office chair on a level surface, use a screwdriver or other tools to remove the base under the seat, and gently tilt the chair to the side. Check if the chair is damaged, refer to the manufacturer's manual to determine the repair location, use pliers to grip the gas cylinder tube, open the tube, and then loosen the cylinder. If it does not come off in one attempt, repeat the operation until the cylinder falls off by itself. Be careful not to force it to avoid damaging other parts. Go to a nearby hardware store to inquire about the relevant cylinder model and purchase a new cylinder of the same size as the original one. When installing the new cylinder, be careful to ensure it is installed correctly, reassemble the office chair, tighten all bolts with a wrench, adjust the seat height, and check if the cylinder is working properly.
Repairing a leaking cylinder: Use a screwdriver to disassemble the computer chair, check if there is an air needle in the gas spring, push the air needle into the gas rod, and push it hard to repair it. If the front end of the cylinder is leaking, it means the front-end seal is damaged, and replacing this seal will solve the problem.
If you are not familiar with office chair repairs, it is advisable to seek the help of a professional to avoid causing more damage or safety issues. When purchasing a new cylinder, be sure to choose a reputable hardware store to avoid buying counterfeit and shoddy products.
