Office Chair Cylinder Removal
Office chair cylinder removal can be achieved through methods such as the pressing method, tapping method, rotation method, inverted tapping/rotation removal method, and sitting upright extraction method. The specific operations and precautions are as follows:

I. Specific Removal Methods
Pressing Method
Place the chair upside down, ensure it is stable, and clear the operating space beneath the base. Observe the inner side of the connection between the gas lift and the base, locate the metal snap ring embedded in the groove, and use a slender tool (such as a small flat-head screwdriver, the tip of tweezers, or a ballpoint pen shell with the refill removed) to aim at the gap or both sides of the snap ring and gently press inward. After hearing a 'click' sound, use your hand to steadily pull the gas lift upward to separate it from the base. This method is suitable for connections with obvious snap ring structures, and the operation requires precision to avoid damaging the snap ring.Tapping Method
Place the chair upside down or on its side on a stable ground. Preferably use a rubber mallet (avoid using a metal hammer for direct tapping), and tap evenly around the metal ring connecting the gas lift to the base (or seat) to avoid concentrating the tapping on one point. After tapping a few rounds, hold the gas lift or base with one hand, continue tapping the connection with the other hand, and at the same time, try to pull upward or shake slightly left and right. If the connection is stubborn, first apply lubricating oil (such as WD-40) to the gap, let it sit for 1-2 hours to penetrate, and then tap again, using the lubricating effect to reduce friction.Rotation Method
For situations where the threaded connection between the gas lift and the seat (upper end) is stuck, first apply lubricating oil to the threads to increase lubrication. Then use a pipe wrench (10-inch or 14-inch) or locking pliers to clamp the metal part of the gas rod (as close to the connection as possible), and rotate it counterclockwise with force (usually reverse threads). At the same time, use the other hand or foot to fix the seat until the gas lift is unscrewed. This method will leave obvious clamp marks and is only recommended when planning to replace the gas rod.Inverted Tapping/Rotation Removal Method
Invert the chair to ensure that the gas rod is facing upward and is stable without sliding. Wear gloves during operation to prevent injury. Use a wrench to unscrew the fixing screws connecting the base and the gas rod counterclockwise and keep them properly. If using the tapping method, tap evenly around the connection with a hammer. If the connection is too tight, first apply lubricating oil and let it sit for 1-2 hours. After a gap appears, use your hand or pliers to hold the gas rod steadily and continue tapping until it falls off. If using the rotation method, clamp the top of the gas rod with a pipe wrench, rotate it slowly, and gradually loosen the connection with the help of lubricating oil.Sitting Upright Extraction Method (Suitable for Adjustable-height Models)
Face the chair directly, step on the five-star base with your feet, pull the height adjustment lever upward and hold it, and at the same time, raise the chair to its highest position (do not release the lever throughout the process). Hold both sides of the chair with your hands, adjust the degree of force according to the years of use (the longer the use, the more force is required), shake slightly left and right, and pull the gas rod upward. During operation, ensure that the five-star base is firmly fixed to prevent slipping and falling. If the gas rod is stuck and cannot be pulled out, switch to another method or contact after-sales service.
II. Precautions
- Do not use brute force for hard removal to avoid deformation of the chassis or damage to the gas rod.
- If the gas rod has air leakage, deformation, or severe rust, it is recommended to directly replace it with a new part and do not force a repair.
- The gas rod contains residual high-pressure gas inside, and improper operation may pose an explosion risk. Inexperienced individuals are advised to contact professional personnel for handling.
- After removal, check whether the gas rod is intact. If there is air leakage, cracks, or abnormal noises, it needs to be replaced immediately.
- During reinstallation, ensure that all screws are tightened, and test whether the chair's height adjustment and rotation functions are stable.
- Regularly clean the connection of the gas rod, and applying a small amount of lubricating oil can extend its service life.
