Office Chair Cylinder Lubrication
Lubrication of office chair cylinders requires the use of specialized grease. Do not use engine oil or ordinary lubricating oil, and strictly follow operational specifications and safety requirements. The key points are as follows:

1. Lubricant Selection: Specialized Grease is the Core Requirement The office chair cylinder is a high-pressure sealed system with strict requirements for lubricant performance. Do not use engine oil or ordinary lubricating oil as their high fluidity makes them prone to loss. Liquid oil may seep into the seals, causing rubber aging and even leading to cylinder air leakage or failure. More seriously, the interior of the gas rod falls within the scope of air compressors, and the use of improper oil products may trigger explosion risks due to high temperatures and pressures. Choose semi-solid specialized grease which has strong adhesion, high-temperature resistance (usually needs to withstand temperatures above 80โ), and water-wash resistance, and can form a long-lasting lubricating film on metal surfaces. When selecting, pay attention to three key parameters: base oil type (synthetic oil-based has better high-temperature resistance), consistency grade (NLGI No. 2 is suitable for most cylinders), and additive formulation (containing molybdenum disulfide or polytetrafluoroethylene can enhance anti-wear performance).
2. Operational Specifications: Be Cautious with Cleaning and Filling Before filling, wipe the cylinder surface with a clean cloth to prevent dust from entering the lubrication system. Use a specialized grease gun to inject slowly, ensuring that the grease evenly fills the gap between the piston and the cylinder body. Strictly prohibit the use of penetrating oils such as WD40 as these products can dissolve the original grease and accelerate the wear of metal components. If you need to change the brand of grease, thoroughly clean the old grease before filling with the new one. Mixing different brands of grease may cause chemical reactions, rendering the lubrication ineffective.
3. Maintenance Cycle and Abnormal Handling It is recommended to check the lubrication status every 6-12 months, and the specific cycle can be adjusted according to the frequency of use (e.g., shorten the cycle if the chair is raised and lowered more than 10 times a day). If there are situations such as rotational stuttering, increased abnormal noise, or unsmooth raising and lowering, stop using it immediately and check whether the grease is dry or deteriorated. For office chairs that have been idle for a long time, perform regular raising and lowering tests to prevent the grease from hardening and blocking the cylinder.
4. Safety Tips: Avoid Explosion Risks The cylinder is usually filled with high-purity nitrogen. Poor-quality gas rods or insufficient gas purity may lead to explosions. When purchasing, ensure that the product has passed safety standards such as GB/T 10357.4-2013, and avoid buying unbranded or low-quality products. During use, avoid frequent and rapid adjustment of the raising and lowering to prevent a sudden increase in temperature inside the cylinder and abnormal pressure. If you find cracks on the cylinder surface, air leakage, or loss of control over the raising and lowering, immediately contact a professional maintenance technician for replacement.
