Office Chair Cylinder Descent

Admin October 10, 2026

The descent of an office chair cylinder is usually caused by a malfunction of the gas lift or adjustment valve. Common causes include gas leakage from the cylinder, a malfunctioning adjustment valve, loose screws, or overloading. Problems can be located by checking the sound, appearance, operation, and screw status, and resolved by tightening screws, cleaning the adjustment valve, replacing the gas lift, or contacting professional repair services based on the specific cause.

Troubleshooting Methods

  1. Listen for Sounds: When pressing down on the seat, if you hear a hissing sound of gas leakage or the seat sinks rapidly, it may indicate gas leakage from the cylinder. Leakage reduces the internal pressure of the cylinder, making it unable to support the weight of the seat and causing it to sink.
  2. Inspect the Appearance: Check for oil stains around the connection points of the cylinder. If oil stains are present, it indicates a failed seal, allowing gas to escape and preventing the cylinder from functioning properly.
  3. Test the Operation: Repeatedly operate the height adjustment lever to check for any sticking or abnormal resistance. If the adjustment valve is stuck, it can cause the cylinder to move unevenly or fail to maintain its height, resulting in sinking.
  4. Check the Screws: Examine the fixing screws at both ends of the cylinder for looseness. Loose screws can cause unstable connections between the cylinder and the seat or base, affecting the normal function of the cylinder and leading to sinking issues.

Solutions

  • If the issue is loose screws, use tools to tighten them to restore the stability of the cylinder.
  • If the adjustment valve is stuck, clean out any debris and apply lubricating grease to ensure smooth movement and restore the lifting function of the cylinder.
  • If the cylinder is leaking gas or the adjustment valve is severely damaged, replace the cylinder. When replacing, choose a product that matches the specifications of the original cylinder, which typically costs a few dozen yuan. When replacing, wear safety goggles to prevent injury from the cylinder suddenly popping out.
  • If the chair has electric height adjustment or a complex structure, it is advisable to seek professional assistance to avoid causing more serious damage or safety hazards through self-operation.

Precautions

  • If the gas leakage problem is severe or cannot be resolved on your own, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel to ensure repair quality and safety.
  • During daily use, avoid overloading the office chair and regularly check the status of the cylinder and its connecting parts to extend the lifespan of the office chair.
