Office Chair Cylinder Air Leak
Admin October 12, 2026
If the cylinder of an office chair leaks air, you can try replacing the seal or the entire gas rod to fix it. Daily inspection and maintenance are also necessary.

Repair Methods
- Replace the seal: First, locate the seal at the bottom of the gas rod and remove it using a wrench or screwdriver. After removal, clean the seal and its surrounding area, and carefully check for signs of aging or damage. If the seal is found to be damaged, purchase a new seal of the same specifications as the original one for replacement. When installing the new seal, ensure it is firmly installed to avoid loosening. After installation, test the cylinder to check if there is still any air leakage.
- Replace the entire gas rod: If the air leakage problem persists after replacing the seal, or if the seal is severely damaged and cannot be repaired, the entire gas rod needs to be replaced. Turn the chair upside down, locate the connecting screws between the gas rod and the seat base, and remove the screws using a wrench or screwdriver to take out the old gas rod. When purchasing a new gas rod, pay attention to selecting one that fits the model of the chair. After installing the new gas rod in place, test the chair again to ensure that the cylinder no longer leaks air and that the chair's lifting function returns to normal.
Daily Maintenance
- Regular inspection: Check the airtightness of the gas rod monthly. When operating the chair's lifting function, listen carefully for any obvious air leakage sounds. If you hear an air leakage sound or find that the chair's height cannot be fixed, it indicates that there may be an air leakage problem in the cylinder. Stop using the chair immediately to avoid accidents caused by unstable air pressure.
- Observe oil stains: During daily use, pay attention to observe whether there are any oil stains seeping out around the cylinder. The appearance of oil stains around the cylinder is usually a sign of aging of the seal ring. Once this situation is detected, inspect and repair the cylinder in a timely manner to prevent the air leakage problem from worsening.
