Office Chair Cylinder Air Leak

Admin October 11, 2026

The following methods can be used to address air leaks in office chair cylinders:

First, inspect and replace the gas rod seals. Aging or damaged seals on the gas rod are a common cause of cylinder air leaks. Locate the seal at the bottom of the gas rod, remove it using a wrench or screwdriver, clean it carefully, and check for any damage. If the seal is found to be broken, deformed, or otherwise problematic, purchase a new seal that matches the original and replace it. Ensure the new seal is installed securely to prevent loosening. After installation, test the chair to see if the air leak persists.

If the seal cannot be repaired or if the air leak continues after replacing the seal, it may be necessary to replace the entire gas rod. Turn the chair upside down, locate the screws connecting the gas rod to the seat base, and remove them using appropriate tools such as a wrench or screwdriver. Take out the old gas rod. Then, purchase a new gas rod that fits the seat base and install it correctly. After installation, test the chair again to confirm whether the air leak has been resolved.

You can also try using a screwdriver to disassemble the cylinder and check if there is an air needle inside the gas spring. If an air needle is present, use the screwdriver to push it into the gas rod and apply force. This method may repair the air leak.

Additionally, inspect and repair the leaking parts. Damage to the piston seal inside the cylinder can cause air leaks. In this case, disassemble the cylinder and carefully check whether the seal is intact. If the seal is damaged, replace it promptly. Meanwhile, air leaks from the valve can also affect the normal use of the lifting chair. Check whether the valve is closed tightly. If the valve is loose or damaged, repair or replace it.

If you are unable to determine the cause of the air leak or lack the repair skills, it is recommended to send the lifting chair to a professional repair department for inspection and repair to ensure the problem is properly resolved.
