Office Chair Cylinder Adjustment

Admin October 19, 2026

Office chair cylinder adjustment mainly involves two aspects: height adjustment and speed adjustment of extension and retraction. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Height Adjustment The pneumatic lift chair achieves height changes through the extension and retraction of the piston rod inside the cylinder. If the chair sinks and cannot maintain its height, it can be repaired using the following two methods:

  1. Using a Hose Clamp
    • Expose the Cylinder: Turn the chair upside down. Use a screwdriver to press the base fixing clip and remove the wheels and plastic skirt (if the skirt covers the cylinder, remove it first). After reinstalling the wheels, pull down the skirt to expose the metal cylinder.
    • Install the Hose Clamp: Wrap a rubber band, tape around the cylinder, or sand the surface to increase friction. Wrap the hose clamp around the cylinder and tighten it. After testing the height, if adjustment is needed, move the clamp position up or down. If the clamp slips, secure it with a rubber strip or switch to the PVC pipe method.
  2. Using a PVC Pipe
    • Measure Parameters: Pull down the plastic skirt and measure the diameter of the cylinder and its length at the desired height.
    • Process the Pipe: Purchase a PVC pipe with the same or slightly larger diameter (e.g., 1.5 inches/3.8 cm). Saw it open lengthwise (it is recommended to wear a mask to avoid inhaling particles).
    • Fix the Pipe: Slide the pipe over the cylinder to ensure the chair's height is fixed and there is no risk of slipping.

II. Speed Adjustment of Extension and Retraction The extension and retraction speed of the cylinder is controlled by the gas flow in the air pipe. This can be achieved by adjusting the external elbow air regulator (throttle valve):

  • Adjustment Principle: The throttle valve controls the flow rate by changing the cross-sectional area of the gas passage. Rotating the throttle valve clockwise reduces the gas flow rate, slowing down the extension of the cylinder; rotating it counterclockwise speeds up the extension.
  • Operation Steps: Locate the throttle valve at the bottom of the cylinder (usually a metal or plastic knob). Use a tool (such as a wrench) to slowly rotate it to the desired speed. Test and fine-tune it to a comfortable state.

Precautions:

  • Ensure the surface of the cylinder is clean during height adjustment to prevent the hose clamp or PVC pipe from slipping.
  • Avoid applying excessive force when adjusting the throttle valve to prevent damage to the valve or gas leakage.
  • If the cylinder has severe air leakage or cannot be repaired, it is recommended to replace it with a new one to ensure safety.
