Office Chair Cylinder
The cylinder beneath an office chair is a pneumatic rod, also known as a gas spring or gas lift, which is one of the core components of an office chair.

Core Function: The primary role of the pneumatic rod is to enable infinite height adjustment of the seat. Through high-pressure nitrogen gas inside, the piston in the cylinder divides the space into upper and lower parts, generating an upward thrust under the pressure of the nitrogen gas. Users can lower the seat by operating the lift lever and using their own body weight; after standing up, the chair automatically rises again, allowing users to easily find the most comfortable position for their height and desk.
Working Principle: The working principle of the pneumatic rod is based on the balance of gas pressure. The cylinder is filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas, and the piston divides the cylinder into two chambers, upper and lower. When a user sits down and operates the lift lever, the piston moves downward, compressing the gas in the lower chamber and lowering the seat; when the user stands up, the gas pressure in the lower chamber pushes the piston upward, and the seat automatically rises. This design makes height adjustment of the seat smoother and more stable.
Additional Features: Some advanced models of pneumatic rods are equipped with knobs for adjusting the tightness of the backrest's recline. Users can rotate the knob according to their personal needs to adjust the resistance of the backrest, thereby achieving a more comfortable sitting experience.
Safety Hazards: However, poor-quality or aged pneumatic rods pose safety risks. Since the pneumatic rod is filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas, defects in the cylinder material or manufacturing process, or aging due to long-term use, may lead to cylinder rupture and, in extreme cases, even trigger serious accidents such as explosions. Therefore, when choosing an office chair, priority should be given to products with reliable quality and safety certifications, and the condition of the pneumatic rod should be regularly inspected to ensure safe use.
