Office Chair Cutting Layout

Admin October 11, 2026

The cutting layout of office chairs can refer to the cutting methods of chair covers, and be flexibly adjusted according to the structural characteristics of office chairs. Here are some specific methods and key points:

Cutting with Templates

First, create templates that match the shapes of various parts of the office chair (such as the seat, backrest, and armrests). The template material can be cardboard or plastic. Place the template flat on the fabric, use tailor's chalk or a marking pen to draw the outline along the edge of the template, and then cut the fabric along the outline. This method is suitable for mass production of office chair covers, ensuring consistency in the size and shape of each component. When making templates, accurately measure the dimensions of each part of the office chair, and consider the fabric's stretchability and seam allowance width, which is generally reserved at 1 - 2 centimeters.

Cutting with Cardboard

If there is no ready-made template, find a piece of cardboard that is approximately the same size as the corresponding part of the office chair, and trim and adjust it according to actual needs to make its shape meet the requirements. Place the cardboard on the fabric and follow the steps of drawing the outline and cutting as described above. This method is simple and easy to implement, suitable for small-scale production or personalized customization. When trimming the cardboard, pay attention to the smoothness of the edges to avoid sharp corners that may affect the cutting effect of the fabric.

Cutting with Right-Angled Triangles

For some regularly shaped parts of office chairs, such as the right-angled part of the seat, right-angled triangles can be used for cutting. First, determine the lengths of the two right-angled sides of the right-angled triangle to match the dimensions of the right-angled part of the seat, and then draw and cut the right-angled triangle on the fabric. This method can improve the utilization rate of the fabric and reduce waste. When cutting, ensure the accuracy of the angles of the right-angled triangle to ensure the effect after stitching.

Three-Dimensional Cutting Method Without Templates or Measuring

Drape the fabric directly over the office chair, and use manual pleating and folding to make the fabric fit the shape of the office chair. Then, use thumbtacks or pins to fix the position of the fabric. Mark the cutting outline on the fabric, and finally remove the fabric for cutting. This method is suitable for the production of office chair covers that do not require high cutting accuracy and pursue a natural and casual style. When operating, pay attention to the flatness of the fabric to avoid excessive wrinkles that may affect the cutting effect.
