Thinning of Office Chair Cushions
Thinning of office chair cushions can be addressed through methods such as cleaning and sun exposure, replacing the filling, thickening modifications, or direct thickening.

Restore Elasticity through Cleaning or Sun Exposure
If the cushion has thinned due to long-term compression of the internal filling (such as foam, cotton, or silk floss) leading to a decrease in elasticity, try cleaning or sun exposure. Cleaning can remove surface stains and slightly loosen the fiber structure, while sun exposure decomposes some aging substances through ultraviolet rays, promoting fiber rebound. However, note that sun exposure should not be too long (recommended not exceeding 2 hours) to avoid accelerated aging of the filling or brittleness of the surface material.Replace the Filling or Cushion Core
If the elasticity has not recovered after cleaning or sun exposure, and the cushion shows significant sagging, cracking, or odor, it indicates that the filling has severely aged. In this case, disassemble the cushion and replace the internal filling (such as high-density foam, memory foam, or 3D mesh fabric), or directly replace the entire cushion core. Ensure that the new filling matches the original cushion size to avoid seat tilt due to uneven thickness.Thickening Modification to Retain Fit
If you do not want to replace the entire cushion, you can perform a thickening modification. First, measure the length, width, thickness, and curvature of the original cushion, select foam or memory foam with a moderate density (recommended 30-45D) as the filling layer, and control the thickness to 3-5 centimeters. Cut the new filling to match the shape of the original cushion and fix it with hot melt adhesive or Velcro. This retains the original fit of the seat while precisely controlling the thickness to avoid affecting posture due to excessive thickening.Direct Thickening to Enhance Comfort
For quick improvement, choose a 5-8 centimeter thick slow-rebound cotton or gel pad to lay directly on the chair surface. Slow-rebound cotton evenly supports the body according to pressure distribution, while the gel pad reduces heat through heat dissipation design. The thickening layer should extend slightly forward to the base of the thighs to avoid hard edges pressing on blood vessels and causing leg numbness. This method is suitable for temporary use or users with high requirements for cushion thickness.
Additional Notes: The replacement cycle of computer chair cushions is influenced by usage frequency, environmental humidity, and personal habits. High-quality cushions (such as high-density foam or 3D mesh fabric) can last 3-5 years, while average-quality cushions (such as ordinary foam) may need replacement in 1-3 years. If the cushion shows significant sagging, loss of elasticity, or odor, even if it has not reached the replacement cycle, it is recommended to address it promptly to avoid affecting health.
