Office Chair Cushion Sinking

Admin October 10, 2026

The sinking or sliding of an office chair cushion can be caused by various factors, and targeted solutions should be implemented based on the specific cause.

  1. Cushion Filling Issues
    If the internal high-density foam or other fillings lose elasticity or suffer physical damage after prolonged compression, the cushion may collapse. In this case, the collapsed foam or springs need to be replaced, with repair costs ranging from approximately 200 to 500 yuan per seat.

  2. Gas Lift Issues
    Seal failure in the gas lift, leakage of internal inert gas, or fatigue in the metal structure can cause the overall height of the seat to decline. If the gas lift is aged, worn, or damaged, or if chronic air leakage occurs due to excessive pressure in the gas rod, it will be unable to effectively support the cushion. Solutions include:

  • Checking the condition of the gas lift (such as locking function, stability, appearance, and feel), and replacing it with aๆญฃ่ง„ๅˆๆ ผ (regularly qualified) gas lift (the rod should have a clear trademark and qualification stamp) if damaged;
  • If repair is not possible, adjust the chair height to a comfortable position, make a mark on the support rod, disassemble the support rod, and insert a hard rod or similar object into the air cylinder to fill the space occupied by air.
  1. Slide Rail Issues
    If the slide rail beneath the cushion is blocked by foreign objects or damaged, it may cause the cushion to slide. Clear any foreign objects from the slide rail and replace damaged components.

  2. Cushion Material Issues
    If the cushion material has insufficient friction, apply shoe wax or specialized friction-increasing products to the underside of the cushion or the contact area to enhance grip.

  3. Inappropriate Seat Height
    Improper seat height can cause excessive pressure on the thighs and knees, leading to cushion sliding. Adjust the seat height to ensure that the feet are flat on the ground.

  4. Weight Issues
    If the weight exceeds the load-bearing capacity of the office chair, it may cause the cushion to slide. Choose a chair with an appropriate load-bearing capacity according to the instructions.

  5. Tray Issues
    Damage to the tray or incorrect installation (such as installing a new seat tray backward) can cause sliding. Adjust the tray direction (ensure the lifting lever is on the right-hand side) or repair/replace the damaged tray.
