Office Chair Cushion Screw

Admin October 11, 2026

The installation of office chair cushion screws should be carried out according to specifications, with core steps including preparing tools, locating holes, fixing step by step, and overall adjustment, while paying attention to specification matching and safety risks.

I. Preparation Before Installation

  1. Tool and Part Inspection: Prepare appropriate tools based on the type of screw, such as an Allen wrench (common for hidden screws), a Phillips screwdriver (for regular screws), or a Torx wrench (for special anti-loosening screws), and wear rubber gloves for grip. Ensure that screws, nuts, and washers are complete and undamaged to avoid replacing parts midway.
  2. Seat Status Adjustment: For electric seats, unplug the power cord first; for manual seats, it is recommended to lay the cushion down or secure it on a flat surface to prevent sliding during installation. If replacing the cushion, flip the chair over, use an Allen wrench to unscrew the screws securing the base and armrests, and remove the old cushion.

II. Locating the Installation Position

  1. Exposing the Connection Structure: For some seats, remove the outer fabric or leather of the cushion to find the metal frame or plastic bracket beneath the cushion. Screws are usually installed in the pre-drilled holes (mostly round or square threaded holes) where the bracket connects to the cushion.
  2. Fixing the Tray to the Cushion: Place the tray at the corresponding position on the bottom of the cushion, and use four shorter screws (such as M6 or M8 specifications) to pass through the holes in the tray and align with the threaded holes in the cushion. If there are washers at the holes, place them on the bolts before installing the nuts.

III. Screw Fixing Steps

  1. Initial Fixing: Screw the nut onto the end of the bolt by hand to prevent the bolt from falling off.
  2. Tightening Operation: Use a wrench to turn the nut clockwise, first gently tighten it until the bolt is not loose, and then gradually apply more force to tighten it, avoiding excessive force that could cause the thread to strip or the frame to deform. When fixing the tray to the cushion, tighten the screws in a diagonal order to ensure a secure connection.
  3. Overall Structure Fixing: If components such as the backrest and armrests are involved, first preliminarily fix the backrest and armrests (using short screws temporarily without fully tightening), then align the installation holes at the back of the cushion and use medium-length screws (about 20-25mm) for secondary fixing. Finally, go back and adjust the short screws of the backrest and armrests to ensure that the entire structure is not loose.

IV. Precautions

  1. Specification Matching: The screw specifications must match the holes (common specifications are M6, M8, M10, with lengths of 10-25mm). Using the wrong ones may cause the thread to strip or the structure to be unstable.
  2. Safety Risks: The screws on the chassis must be tightened firmly; otherwise, there may be a risk of tipping over due to an unstable center of gravity.
  3. Brand Differences: For special brand seats (such as Herman Miller, Okamura), it is recommended to refer to the official manual or contact after-sales service to avoid damaging the warranty by installing it yourself.
