Office Chair Cushion Restoration
Office chair cushion restoration can be achieved through the following methods, and the appropriate approach should be selected based on the degree of deformation and the material:

Minor Deformation Treatment
If the cushion only shows slight sagging, it is usually due to the long-term compression of the filling material (such as sponge or memory foam), resulting in a decrease in elasticity. In this case, move the cushion to a well-ventilated area and let it air out for 1-2 hours, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent material aging. After airing, pat the cushion surface evenly with your hands to make the internal fibers fluffy again and restore some elasticity. This method is suitable for cushions with minor deformation and no structural damage to the material.
Local Uneven Force Repair
For obvious protrusions or depressions caused by long-term unilateral pressure, first observe the location of the deformed area. Depression repair: Use your hands to squeeze the filling material around the depression towards the center, gradually filling the depressed area. Protrusion repair: Slowly press the protruding part until it is level with the surrounding surface. After adjustment, place a heavy object (such as a thick book or a sand-filled cloth bag) on the deformed area and press it for 6-12 hours. The continuous pressure helps the material regain its flatness. During operation, ensure that the heavy object is evenly distributed to avoid secondary deformation.
Thermal Restoration for Specific Materials
For materials that can withstand high temperatures, such as polyester fiber and artificial leather, a steam iron can be used for assistance in restoration. Before operation, check the material specifications to confirm the maximum tolerable temperature (usually not exceeding 120ยฐC). Lay the cushion flat on a hard surface, adjust the iron to a medium-low setting, and keep a distance of 10-15 centimeters from the deformed area while moving the iron evenly. The heat will soften the material, and its shape can be reshaped through external stretching or pressing. Key point: Keep the iron moving continuously throughout the process to avoid local overheating, which may cause burns or shrinkage.
Assistance from Specialized Tools
There are restoration tools such as cushion expanders available on the market. Their principle is to apply an outward supporting force to the edges of the cushion through elastic materials, helping to unfold the deformed part. When using, insert the tool into the gap between the cushion and the chair frame, adjust the supporting force to a moderate level, and significant improvement can be observed after continuous use for 3-5 days. This method is suitable for overall sagging deformation caused by long-term use, especially for slow-rebound materials such as memory foam.
Restoration through Repurposing Old Items
If the cushion is severely damaged (such as surface damage or clumping of the filling material), it can be repurposed through fabric reorganization. The steps include: removing the original cushion shell and keeping the filling core; cutting a circular piece of fabric that is 5-8 centimeters larger than the core (durable houndstooth or canvas is recommended); sewing a drawstring around the edge of the fabric and filling it with an appropriate amount of PP cotton (which can be recycled from old throw pillows); tightening the drawstring and securing the thread ends, and then putting the new cushion back onto the chair frame. This method can solve both the deformation and appearance aging problems at the same time, but it requires a certain level of handicraft skills.
