Office Chair Cushion Replacement
The replacement of office chair cushions should be carried out in different ways depending on the type of chair. For ordinary second-hand chairs, it can be done by oneself, while for genuine leather or chairs with complex structures, it is recommended to evaluate them before handling.

Replacement Steps for Ordinary Second-Hand Office Chairs
Taking a second-hand Staple office chair as an example, you need to prepare a suitable foam cushion (such as a foam cushion) and a U-shaped staple gun. First, use a tool to pick out the U-shaped staples on the back of the cushion to separate the leather on the seat surface from the supporting wooden board. Then, pull open the ropes that fix the leather cover and the sponge cushion, and take out the old sponge cushion. Cut the new sponge cushion according to the shape of the old cushion to ensure a matching size. Put the cut new sponge cushion back in place, tighten the leather cover of the cushion, and fix the edge of the leather cover with a U-shaped staple gun according to the original staple hole arrangement rules. Finally, reinstall the seat back onto the chair frame.
Replacement Process for Genuine Leather Office Chairs
1. Preparation and Material Selection
- Tool List: You need to prepare screwdrivers (cross/flat-head) or wrenches suitable for the screw models of the chair, buckle removal tools (or flat-head screwdrivers), sharp scissors (for cutting sponges), heavy-duty staplers (or leather-specific glue, thick needles and threads), and labor protection gloves. Optional tools include hammers and pliers.
- Material Selection: High-density, high-resilience sponges (with a density of 40 - 50kg/mยณ) are recommended. For a better fit, memory foam can be chosen (although it is more expensive). Composite fillers (such as latex particles + high-elastic fibers) can improve breathability and elasticity.
- Size Measurement and Safety Tips: Before disassembly, accurately measure the length, width, and height (thickness) of the old filler. The length and width of the new sponge should be according to the original size, and the thickness can be increased by 1 - 2 centimeters. If the chair has an electric adjustment function, be sure to disconnect the power cord connector at the bottom of the seat before disassembly.
2. Disassembly Steps
- Screw-Fixed Models: Turn the chair upside down or sideways. Locate the fixing screws at the connections between the seat and the base, and between the backrest and the seat. Use the corresponding screwdriver to unscrew them counterclockwise and store them separately. After unscrewing, the cushion or backrest can be separated.
- Buckle-Fixed Models: Reach into the gap between the cushion and the base and feel for the position of the plastic buckles. The common unlocking method is to first pull out the front end of the cushion to make the buckles disengage, and then push the entire cushion backward (or upward) to remove it. When disassembling the backrest, you may need to push it downward from the top and pull the upper edge of the backrest outward. Apply even force during the operation to avoid breaking the buckles.
3. Removal of the Fabric and Inspection of the Frame
After removing the cushion/backrest, check whether the frame is intact. If there is any damage, repair or replace the frame before continuing with the subsequent operations. If the chair has a complex structure (such as with electric adjustment, heating, or airbag functions), or if you are not confident in your own hands-on ability, it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel for handling.
