Office Chair Cushion Removal
Admin October 09, 2026
The removal of an office chair cushion requires selecting the appropriate method based on the type of chair. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

I. Removal Method for Ordinary Computer Chairs
- Flip the Chair: Turn the chair upside down and place it on a stable stool or table with the bottom facing up to ensure sufficient operating space.
- Remove Base Screws: Use a hex wrench to unscrew the four screws securing the base (usually located at the four corners of the chair). Keep the screws for subsequent reinstallation.
- Detach Armrests (Optional): If complete removal of the cushion is required, further unscrew the screws connecting the armrests to the cushion (this step may not be necessary for some models).
Key Points: It is recommended to take photos to record the positions of the screws before operation to avoid misalignment during reinstallation. If the screws are rusted, a small amount of lubricant can be sprayed to assist in removal.
II. Removal Method for Ergonomic Chairs
- Separate the Backrest from the Cushion: For some models, press the backrest adjustment button or loosen the fixing screws first to separate the backrest from the cushion.
- Remove the Cushion Base:
- Raise the gas lift to its highest position to increase operating space.
- Hold the cushion with one hand and press the lift lever with the other hand while gently shaking to loosen and remove the base from the gas lift.
- Remove the Gas Lift (Optional): If the gas lift needs to be replaced, turn the chair feet upside down and gently tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet (or with a wooden board underneath) to separate it from the chair feet.
Key Points: The gas rod of an ergonomic chair is tightly connected to the chair feet. Do not use hard objects to strike directly, as this may cause damage to the gas rod or the risk of explosion. After removal, check if the gas lift is leaking to ensure safety.
III. Removal Method for Modified Seats (Taking Used Car Seats as an Example)
- Unlock the Cushion Clips: Push inward with both hands on the front edge of the cushion until you hear a 'click' sound, then lift the middle section to separate the cushion from the base.
- Remove Backrest Screws: Lift the backrest trim cover and unscrew the hidden screws with a T20 screwdriver (for some models, the headrest may need to be removed first).
- Check Base Compatibility: For modified seats, confirm whether the hole positions and load-bearing capacity of the original car base match those of the office chair bracket to avoid unstable installation.
Key Points: Modified seats have complex structures. Ensure compliance with regulations regarding their source to avoid using used components with potential safety hazards. Wear gloves during operation to prevent cuts.
General Precautions
- Safety First: Cut off the power supply before removal (for electrically adjustable chairs) to avoid accidental pinching or electric shock.
- Tool Preparation: Prepare tools such as a hex wrench, screwdriver, and rubber mallet according to the type of chair to avoid using mismatched tools that may cause slippage.
- Categorize and Store Parts: Store small parts such as screws and clips in categories according to the removal sequence to prevent loss.
- Reassembly Test: After installation, check if all components are secure and if the adjustment functions are normal to ensure safe use.
