Office Chair Cushion Making

Admin October 22, 2026

Office chair cushions can be made using three methods: universal, knitted, or simple square-shaped. The specific steps and material selections are as follows:

I. Homemade Universal Office Chair Cushion (Highly Recommended)

  1. Material and Tool Preparation

    • Inner Core: Prefer high-density foam (5-8cm thick) or memory foam for strong support and resistance to deformation; alternatively, use pearl cotton or PP cotton for lower cost but requiring regular replacement.
    • Outer Fabric: Polyester-cotton blend or denim for durability; cotton or canvas for winter; old clothing to reduce costs.
    • Auxiliary Materials: Old curtain fabric as lining for enhanced durability; elastic bands, Velcro, and D-rings for securing straps; silicone anti-slip particles to reduce cushion movement.
    • Tools: Scissors, sewing kit, tape measure, chalk, sewing machine (optional).
  2. Production Process

    • Cutting Fabric: Draw a 40x50cm rectangle on the main fabric, leaving 10cm seam allowances on both sides; cut two front and back pieces each. Cut an 8cm wide strap for the chair back, using a D-ring to adjust the tightness.
    • Sewing the Main Body: Turn the fabric inside out and sew three sides, leaving a 10cm opening; insert the foam and hand-stitch the opening closed, or install an invisible zipper for easy replacement of the inner core.
    • Securing Straps: Use backstitching for added strength and sew the straps onto both sides of the cushion.
  3. Detail Optimization

    • Add a layer of silicone anti-slip particles at the bottom to prevent sliding; sew a wave-shaped protrusion in the lumbar support area and wrap it with yarn to create massage points; use 3D mesh fabric covers in summer and flannel removable covers in winter.

II. Knitted Boss Chair Cushion (Suitable for Handicraft Enthusiasts)

  1. Materials: Parallel yarn (about eight skeins, two taels), circular needles.
  2. Steps
    • Cast On: For a width of about 50cm, cast on 40 stitches; adjust the length as needed.
    • Knitting: Use both hands to cast on and knit row by row with circular needles, leaving 10-12 meters of yarn for finishing and sewing.
    • Finishing: Bind off in the middle with a piece of yarn, leaving two meters for sewing.

III. Simple Square Cushion (Suitable for Quick Production)

  1. Materials: Square fabric, fabric strips, pearl cotton.
  2. Steps
    • Fold the edges of the fabric strips and iron them flat; sew them onto a larger piece of fabric.
    • Lay out another piece of fabric flat, leaving an opening on the edge and not sewing the middle 15cm.
    • Sew the other edges, cut off the corners, turn it inside out, fill it with pearl cotton, and sew the opening closed.

Precautions:

  • During the testing phase, sit on different chairs for 20 minutes to adjust the support angle; a 15ยฐ forward-leaning sitting posture can reduce lumbar pressure, and the homemade cushion can be adjusted according to the seat height.
  • After using a supportive cushion, the fatigue index from prolonged sitting decreases by an average of about 34%. It is recommended to prioritize high-density foam or memory foam inner cores to enhance comfort.
