Office Chair Cushion Installation

Admin October 11, 2026

The installation steps for office chair cushions are mainly divided into the following common methods, and the corresponding method should be selected according to the specific chair type:

Basic Installation (Suitable for Pneumatic Rod Structures)

  1. Assembly of Chair Wheels and Five-Star Base
Insert each chair wheel into the assembly holes at the bottom of the five-star base, ensuring that each wheel is fully engaged. After completion, flip the five-star base so that the wheels face downward. Place the thicker end of the pneumatic rod vertically against the center hole of the five-star base, ensuring a secure connection between the pneumatic rod and the five-star base. This step is the foundation for the subsequent support structure, and it is necessary to check that the pneumatic rod is vertical and not tilted.

  2. Fixing the Seat Base to the Cushion
Place the seat base on the bottom of the cushion, paying attention to the orientation of the seat base (usually marked or with grooves corresponding to the cushion structure). After aligning the four screw holes of the seat base with those of the cushion, first lightly tighten each B screw (with a matching specification) 3-4 turns to avoid positional deviation caused by tightening all at once, and then tighten all screws sequentially to ensure a firm connection between the seat base and the cushion.

  3. Connecting the Cushion to the Pneumatic Rod
Align the assembled cushion part with the top of the pneumatic rod and insert it vertically downward into the hole in the seat base until you hear a 'click' sound or can no longer press down, indicating that the cushion is properly installed. This step requires maintaining vertical force to avoid damaging the pneumatic rod by applying lateral force.

Complex Installation (Suitable for Split-Back Chairs)

  1. Pre-connecting the Cushion and Backrest
For some office chairs, the backrest needs to be installed first: align the connecting parts of the cushion and backrest, and secure the backrest with three M8 screws (refer to the instruction manual for specifications). When tightening, cross-tighten to ensure even force distribution and prevent the backrest from loosening or tilting.

  2. Assembling the Overall Structure
Align the pre-assembled cushion-backrest assembly with the pneumatic rod or five-star base structure, and complete the connection according to step 3 of the basic installation. If the chair includes armrests, trays, or other components, install them in order: first secure the connecting screws of the armrests to the cushion (usually M6 or M8 specifications), then fix the tray to the backrest with dedicated screws, and finally check that all screws are tightened.

Key Precautions

  • Matching Screw Specifications: Different components may use screws of different specifications (such as B screws, M8, M6, etc.). It is necessary to strictly refer to the instruction manual for selection to avoid mixing screws that may cause slippage or structural instability.
  • Applying Vertical Force: When installing the pneumatic rod or connecting the cushion, maintain vertical force to prevent bending of the pneumatic rod or damage to the connecting parts.
  • Safety Inspection: After installation, shake the chair to test the firmness of the connections between various components, especially load-bearing parts such as the chair wheels, pneumatic rod, and backrest, to ensure there is no looseness or abnormal noise.
