Office Chair Cushion Dry Cleaning

Admin October 09, 2026

Dry cleaning of office chair cushions requires step-by-step operations, with attention to the choice of cleaning agents and drying methods. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Removing Surface Dust

Prefer using a vacuum cleaner: If you have a vacuum cleaner at home, you can directly suck up the dust on the surface and in the crevices of the cushion to prevent dust particles from scratching the fabric during subsequent cleaning.
Manual patting alternative: If you don't have a vacuum cleaner, you can wear a mask and gently pat the cushion with your hands or a hanger to make the dust fall off. Note: If there is a lot of accumulated dust, keep away from your mouth and nose when patting to prevent inhalation.

II. Removing Stubborn Stains

  1. Wet cloth wiping method

    • Prepare a clean soft cloth, wet it with clean water, and wring it out until it no longer drips.
    • Dip a small amount of dry-cleaning solution or neutral water-based cleaning agent (avoid strongly alkaline products) and gently wipe the stained area multiple times. Do not use excessive force to prevent the fabric surface from pilling or being damaged.
    • After wiping, rinse the soft cloth with clean water, wring it out, and repeat the wiping 2-3 times to completely remove the residual cleaning agent.
  2. Sponge-specific cleaning agent method (for non-removable cushions)

    • Evenly spray the sponge-specific cleaning agent on the stained area and control the amount to prevent the liquid from seeping into the interior of the cushion.
    • Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub area by area, with gentle and slow movements to prevent the cleaning agent from spreading to unstained areas.

Key precautions:

  • Water temperature control: The temperature of the cleaning water should not be too high; otherwise, it may cause the stains to solidify and increase the difficulty of cleaning.
  • Cleaning agent selection: Neutral cleaning agents must be used. Strongly alkaline products will corrode the fabric fibers and shorten the service life.
  • Dosage limitation: The ratio of the cleaning agent to water should be strictly controlled. Excessive use will lead to residues, causing the fabric to harden or change color.

III. Air-Drying Treatment

Priority of drying methods:

  1. Natural ventilation: Place the cushion in a cool and well-ventilated place to avoid direct sunlight, which may cause the fabric to fade or deform.
  2. Electric fan assistance: If the ambient humidity is high, you can use an electric fan on low speed to accelerate air circulation.
  3. Hair dryer on cool air setting: Only for local emergency drying. Do not use hot air. High temperatures will accelerate fabric aging and may even pose a risk of sponge combustion.

Drying time requirements: After cleaning, the cushion should be thoroughly dried for at least 30 minutes. If the cushion is thick or the humidity is high, the drying time can be extended to 1 hour. It is essential to ensure that the internal sponge is completely dry; otherwise, mold may grow and cause odors.

IV. Prohibited Items

  • No water washing: The interior of computer chair cushions is mostly composed of sponge and metal frame structures. Water seepage may cause short circuits in the electrical circuits or rust the metal.
  • No high-temperature treatment: High-temperature tools such as hair dryers on hot air setting and irons will damage the elasticity of the fabric and may even pose safety hazards.
  • No accumulation of cleaning agents: Residual cleaning agents will attract more dust, creating a vicious cycle and shortening the service life of the cushion.
