Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chair Cushion

Admin October 13, 2026

The disassembly and assembly of an office chair cushion can be carried out according to the following steps. Ensure safety and have all necessary tools ready before proceeding:

Disassembly Steps

  1. Separate the Backrest from the Base: If the backrest is detachable, first separate it from the base. Some chairs are fixed with clips or screws, so choose the appropriate tool (such as a screwdriver) based on the structure to assist in the operation.
  2. Remove the Base: Raise the pneumatic rod to its highest position. Hold the cushion firmly with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand, and gently shake to detach the base from the pneumatic rod. If the connection is tight due to long-term use, shake it with appropriate force or lightly tap the edge of the base with a rubber mallet to assist in separation.
  3. Separate the Seat from the Pneumatic Rod: If further separation of the seat from the pneumatic rod is required, check the connection method. Some chairs are fixed by threading; rotate counterclockwise to separate. If it is a clip-type, use a flat tool (such as a screwdriver) to pry open the clip, being careful not to scratch your hands.
  4. Special Operations for Replacing the Cushion: If the cushion needs to be replaced, pick out the U-shaped staple gun pins on the back of the cushion (a pair of pliers can be used for assistance), untie the ropes that secure the leather cover and the sponge pad, and remove the deformed cushion. Wear gloves during the operation to prevent being scratched by the staple gun pins.

Assembly Steps

  1. Prepare a New Cushion: Purchase a suitable new cushion online according to the size of the original cushion or the model of the chair, and measure the size of the mounting holes to ensure alignment with the screw holes on the base.
  2. Remove the Old Cushion: Turn the chair upside down and place it on a stable stool. Use an Allen wrench to unscrew the screws that fix the base and the armrests, and remove the old cushion. If the screws are rusted, spray lubricant to assist in disassembly.
  3. Install the New Cushion: Place the new cushion flat on the stool, align the screw holes on the chair base, screw in the screws one by one, and initially fix them. Adjust the position of the cushion to ensure it is level, and then fully tighten the screws to prevent loosening.
  4. Assemble the Armrests and Adjust: Reinstall the armrests and use a wrench to adjust the tightness of the screws to ensure the armrests are stable and can be adjusted flexibly. If the chair has a headrest, install it last and test its lifting or rotating function.
  5. Overall Seat Assembly (if required): If installing the entire seat, first fix the chassis to the bottom of the seat with screws, connect the backrest to the seat (some may require inserting clips or tightening screws), then vertically insert the base into the pneumatic rod, and finally install the armrests and headrest. After installation, test whether the chair's lifting and rotating functions are normal.

Precautions: Turn off the lifting function of the pneumatic rod before operation to avoid accidental triggering; maintain uniform force when using tools to prevent damage to the chair structure; if encountering complex connection methods (such as hidden screws), it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service.
