Office Chair Cover Replacement
Office chair cover replacement should be carried out according to the specific model and type of cover. Here are the detailed steps:

For office chairs of specific models (such as the first-generation ML350) The plastic covers of such chairs are prone to breakage due to their material properties, and there are many cases of the same type being damaged in the market. When replacing, prioritize finding a brand-new original plastic cover to ensure the model matches. After installation, the cover will fit the chair perfectly, restoring its original function and appearance. If it is difficult to obtain original parts, contact the chair manufacturer or authorized dealer to obtain a compatible model to avoid installation failure or secondary damage due to size discrepancies.
For general office chair cover replacement
Prepare tools and materials You will need a wrench, screwdrivers (cross-head or flat-head), a new panel (matching the chair's specifications), as well as fine sandpaper and lubricating oil (for screw hole maintenance). If the cover is fixed with snap fasteners, you can omit the wrench but need a plastic pry bar to assist with disassembly.
Remove the old cover
- Screw-fixed type: Use a screwdriver or wrench to unscrew the fixing screws one by one. Be sure to keep the screws to prevent loss. When disassembling, observe the distribution of the screws to avoid omissions.
- Snap-fastener-fixed type: Locate the position of the snap fasteners (usually at the edge or bottom of the cover), and gently pry them open with a plastic pry bar or your fingers. Avoid using excessive force to prevent the snap fasteners from breaking.
- Mixed-fixed type: Some covers are fixed with both screws and snap fasteners. You need to remove the screws first and then the snap fasteners, or vice versa, according to the sequence.
Clean and maintain the base After disassembly, clean the dust and debris from the chair base and screw holes. If there is rust or dirt in the screw holes, gently sand them smooth with fine sandpaper, and then apply a small amount of lubricating oil (such as WD-40) to prevent the new screws from getting stuck or rusting during installation.
Install the new cover
- Screw-fixed type: Align the new cover with the screw holes on the base, and tighten the screws one by one with a screwdriver. Ensure that the force is even to avoid slipping.
- Snap-fastener-fixed type: Align the snap fasteners of the new cover with the slots on the base, and gently press them until they are fully engaged. Check for stability.
- Mixed-fixed type: Operate in the reverse order of disassembly, first fix the snap fasteners and then tighten the screws, or vice versa.
Check and adjust After installation, shake the cover to check for looseness and test its load-bearing capacity (such as a sitting pressure test). If any wobbling is found, re-tighten the screws or adjust the position of the snap fasteners to ensure that the cover fits the base perfectly.
Precautions
- Turn off the chair's gas lift (if any) before operation to avoid accidental lifting and injury.
- If the cover and the base have a snap-fit design, apply even force when disassembling to avoid local breakage.
- After installing the new cover, it is recommended to let it sit for 24 hours before use to ensure that the lubricating oil fully penetrates the screw holes.
