Office Chair Cost
The cost of an office chair is composed of raw materials, structural craftsmanship, brand premium, and usage cost.

Raw Material Cost: Accounting for 40%-60% of the selling price, it varies significantly depending on the materials. For the frame, low-end products often use ordinary steel pipes with a wall thickness of 1.0 mm, and the surface paint is prone to peeling; mid-to-high-end products adopt steel pipes with a wall thickness of over 2.0 mm or aluminum alloy die-casting, offering stronger load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance. For seat cushions and backrests, low-end products use recycled foam with low density; mid-to-high-end products use high-density cold-foamed foam (density โฅ 50 kg/mยณ, rebound rate > 90%), with some adding latex layers or memory foam. For upholstery, ordinary mesh and PVC leather cost less than 20 yuan per square meter, while imported mesh with good breathability costs 80-150 yuan per square meter; in leather conference chairs, the cost of top-grain leather is 3-5 times that of split leather. For gas lifts, low-priced products use uncertified gas lifts costing less than 20 yuan; reputable brands use SGS or TUV-certified Class 3/4 gas lifts costing 50-100 yuan.
Structural Craftsmanship Cost: In terms of welding processes, low-end products have rough welds, while mid-to-high-end products use robotic welding, resulting in uniform welds that are smoothly polished and treated with electrostatic spraying or electroplating for a high level of rust resistance. Taking conference chairs as an example, the welding and polishing time for low-end products is about 15 minutes, while for mid-to-high-end products, it exceeds 45 minutes, doubling the labor cost. For connectors, low-end products use self-tapping screws directly screwed into plastic parts, while mid-to-high-end products use built-in steel nuts or riveted structures. In terms of functional structures, ordinary conference chairs only support height adjustment, while mid-to-high-end products add features such as recline locking, seat depth adjustment, and independent lumbar support adjustment. For each additional function, the structural complexity increases, and the cost rises by 15%-30%.
Brand Premium: Factory white-label products without brand building are sold directly or as OEM products, with the lowest premium rate; well-known brands have a higher premium rate due to brand-building investments.
Usage Cost: It needs to be calculated by amortizing the initial purchase cost, daily maintenance cost, and lifespan. Based on a 3-5 year usage cycle, the annual average cost of entry-level plastic folding chairs is 10-17 yuan, that of mesh office chairs is 20-40 yuan, and that of solid wood dining chairs or leather leisure chairs is 30-200 yuan. Products with low prices usually have a shorter lifespan, and problems such as looseness and abnormal noises may occur within 1-2 years; mid-to-high-end products have a lifespan of over 3-5 years, with a lower replacement frequency and maintenance cost.
