Converting an Office Chair into an Electric Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

An office chair can be converted into an electric chair, primarily into an electric wheelchair or an electric seat.

Converting into an Electric Wheelchair

Some foreigners have attempted such modifications. They first bolt the office chair onto a wooden board, add four wheels to the board, and then install a remotely controllable operating device on the wheels, thus completing a preliminary electric wheelchair. However, when initially hitting the road, the wooden board under the seat broke due to bumps. Later, they switched to using a steel plate as the base, significantly improving the stability on the road, even reaching speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour. But excessive speed also poses safety risks, with incidents of crashing into flower beds occurring. Some foreigners, seated in the modified electric wheelchair, can freely navigate the roads by manipulating the remote control in their hands, adjusting both direction and speed. This electric wheelchair can not only travel on the streets but also stroll through shopping malls. When not in use, it can serve as a remote-controlled wheelchair, moving to any location as directed by pressing the remote control. However, this modification method carries certain risks, such as difficulty in controlling excessive speed and potential non-compliance with traffic regulations, posing safety hazards on the road.

Converting into an Electric Seat

To convert an ordinary office chair into an electric seat, one needs professional knowledge in automotive repair and electrical systems, as well as corresponding tools. The operation steps are as follows:

  • Disassemble the original seat: Unfasten the seatbelt, remove additional equipment such as airbags, and prepare for subsequent modifications.
  • Install the electric motor and control device: Purchase an electric motor and control device suitable for the vehicle model, and assemble them onto the seat structure, connecting to the vehicle's power system to provide electric power to the seat.
  • Add electric adjustment mechanisms: Such as electric lumbar support and electric leg support devices, enhancing the comfort and functionality of the seat.
  • Install the control panel: Facilitating adjustments by the driver or passenger, enabling electric adjustment of the seat.
  • System debugging and testing: Ensure the electric motor operates normally and that all parts of the seat adjust as expected, guaranteeing stable performance of the modified seat.
  • Final inspection: Make detailed adjustments to the vehicle to ensure the newly installed electric seat coordinates with other equipment and does not affect the overall use of the vehicle.
