Disassembly of Office Chair Control Console

Admin October 12, 2026

The disassembly of an office chair control console should be carried out according to its specific structure. If it involves a knob structure, refer to the following steps. For other structures, follow a top-down disassembly logic:

I. Tools and Safety Preparations

  1. Tool Selection: Prepare a Phillips screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, a soft cloth, and a phone flashlight (to assist in observing hidden structures). If the control console has metal parts, keep a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) on hand to deal with rust or sticking.
  2. Safety Precautions:
    • Disconnect the pneumatic rod of the gas lift function to avoid accidental lifting or lowering during operation, which could cause injury.
    • Place the chair upside down on a soft pad (such as an old towel or foam board) to prevent the chair legs from scratching the floor or the components from bumping into each other.
    • Wear anti-slip gloves to prevent the screwdriver from slipping and scratching your hands.

II. Disassembly Steps for a Knob-Structured Control Console

  1. Locate the Fixing Points:
    • Use the phone flashlight to illuminate the back of the knob and check for 1-2 hidden screw holes (commonly found at the bottom or side of plastic knobs).
    • If the screw holes are covered by a plastic cap, gently pry open the cap with needle-nose pliers, avoiding excessive force that could break the cap.
  2. Release the Screw Fixing:
    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to turn the screw counterclockwise until it is completely loose. Keep the washer (usually a metal or plastic thin piece), which needs to be placed in the original order during reinstallation.
    • If the screw is rusty, apply a small amount of lubricant and wait 5-10 minutes before operating.
  3. Handle the Snap-Fit Structure:
    • Use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the edge of the knob at a 45-degree angle (near the connection to the chair back or seat) until you hear a 'click' sound, indicating that the snap-fit has been released.
    • If the snap-fit is tight, pry along the edge multiple times, avoiding applying force at a single point, which could break the plastic.
  4. Separate the Knob Assembly:
    • Slowly pull out the knob parallel to the direction of the chair back. If you encounter resistance, check for any missed screws or snap-fits (such as those hidden under labels or decorative covers).
    • After separation, wrap the knob in a soft cloth to prevent it from scratching other components.

III. Disassembly Logic for Other Structures of the Control Console If the control console is an integrated type or involves connections to the chair back or armrests, refer to the following principles:

  1. Top-Down Approach: First, separate the seat from the chair back (usually fixed by screws at the bottom), then disassemble the armrests (commonly fixed by screws or snap-fits on the sides), and finally deal with the control console.
  2. Avoid Forceful Disassembly: If a component is stuck, gently tap the surrounding area with a screwdriver or apply lubricant instead of prying directly.
  3. Record the Order of Components: Arrange the screws and components in order during disassembly to facilitate reassembly.

IV. Precautions

  • Take photos to record the original state before disassembly to avoid missing steps during reassembly.
  • If the control console is connected to wires (such as in an electrically adjustable chair), disconnect the power supply first and mark the positions of the wires to prevent short circuits or incorrect connections.
  • For complex structures (such as those with built-in motors or hydraulic devices), it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel to avoid damaging core components.
