Office Chair Construction Tutorial

Admin October 16, 2026

The construction process of an office chair mainly includes the following steps:

First, make the frame, which is the foundational step in building an office chair. Workers use machines to bend steel pipes into the appropriate shapes to create the frame for the bottom of the chair. After that, the cushion part and the frame are firmly connected through welding to ensure the stability of the frame structure and provide solid support for subsequent assembly work.

Next is fixing the springs and steel bars. On the welded frame, precisely fix the springs to the corresponding positions on the seat. The springs are used to give the seat a certain degree of softness and enhance the user's comfort. At the same time, fix steel bars in the middle of the springs to stabilize them, preventing the springs from shifting or deforming during use and ensuring the stability and durability of the seat.

Then comes making the backrest. Based on the posture that makes people feel comfortable during long sitting, carefully design and create the curvature of the backrest. An appropriate backrest curvature can better fit the curve of the human back, reduce fatigue caused by long sitting, and provide good support for the user.

After that, process the outer skin and sponge. Lay the leather flat on the workbench and use a special template to cut out an outer skin that matches the size and shape of the chair. At the same time, cut out a sponge of the same size as the outer skin. The sponge will be placed between the frame and the outer skin and is a key factor in determining the softness of the seat.

After processing the outer skin and sponge, sew the outer skin and sponge. Carefully sew the cut sponge and outer skin to ensure they are tightly combined and form a whole, preparing for subsequent installation on the frame.

Next is installing the sponge cushions. For the backrest part, before installing the sponge, add a layer of particle board in the middle to increase the stability of the backrest. Then install the sewn sponge cushion on the backrest of the seat frame. For the base part, add a cover for stability. The cover has pre-reserved screw holes, which will be used to connect the subsequent support structure.

After that is installing the support frame. The support frame contains multiple important components, such as a hydraulic device for adjusting the up and down movement, which allows the user to adjust the seat height according to their own needs; a 360-degree rotating bearing, enabling the seat to rotate flexibly; and movable wheels, facilitating the movement of the seat between different positions.

Finally, assemble the headrest and armrests. Install the headrest and armrests on the chair according to the design requirements. At this point, a comfortable office chair is completed.
