Office Chair Construction Process

Admin October 16, 2026

The construction process of an office chair mainly includes steps such as frame making, back frame construction, leather processing and cutting, foam cushion cutting and sewing, and assembly and decoration.

Frame Making: This is the fundamental step in constructing an office chair. Hydraulic-powered machines are used to bend steel tubes into shape, creating the frame for the bottom cushion. The ends are connected, and steel bars are welded in the middle to support the mechanism for adjusting the seat position. Then, S-shaped steel springs are hung from the front to the back of the seat frame. These springs provide an elastic mesh for the seat, enhancing comfort. At the same time, steel bars are fixed in the middle of the springs to strengthen the stability of the frame, ensuring that the office chair does not deform easily during use.

Back Frame Construction: The back frame of the chair is constructed, including the spine, armrest attachments, and other components. The design of the backrest is crucial. The curvature should be made according to the comfortable sitting posture for long periods, allowing the user to receive good back support and reducing fatigue when sitting for extended periods.

Leather Processing and Cutting: First, the leather is smoothed out and evenly placed on the cutting table. Patterns are cut according to cardboard templates, avoiding natural flaws on the leather to ensure good-quality cut leather. Plastic templates for parts such as the backrest pillow and armrests are placed on top of the leather, and the leather is cut into pieces using a utility knife following the template patterns.

Foam Cushion Cutting and Sewing: When cutting the foam cushion for the back of the chair, a slightly larger foam cushion is cut according to the size of the leather. Soft, fluffy foam cushions are cut into connected rectangles. After marking on the leather, they are pleated and sewn to form the basic shape of the leather surface of the seat backrest. Similar sewing operations are also carried out for the seat cushion part. This not only increases comfort but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the office chair.

Assembly and Decoration: The sewn leather cover is placed over the metal frame surface and fixed with cover plates and screws to the frame. The adjustable-height armrests, hydraulic rods, pneumatic rods, and the bottom support rods of the seat are joined together with the metal base to ensure that the office chair can be freely raised and lowered. The wheels of the seat are installed, and the backrest pillow and armrests are inserted into specific positions. A layer of particleboard is added in the middle before installing the sponge on the backrest to increase stability. A cover is added to the base for firmness, and the cover has screw holes for connecting the support structure. The support frame includes a hydraulic device for raising and lowering, a 360-degree rotating bearing, and movable wheels.
