Hanging Coats on Office Chairs
Admin October 22, 2026
There are certain considerations and reasons for hanging coats on office chairs in terms of Feng Shui and practical use.

Feng Shui Considerations
- Color Selection: Earthy yellow or yellow is highly recommended. In the Five Elements theory, earthy yellow belongs to the earth element, symbolizing the earth firmly supporting all things. Hanging it on the back of a chair implies having "someone always supporting you from behind," forming a "man-made backer." It is suitable for situations where clients change their minds temporarily or leaders are inconsistent. People who lack water in their wood element can also use yellow to boost their luck. Other optional colors include low-key neutral tones like beige and camel, with navy blue appearing professional. When the seat faces the main door or aisles directly, hanging warm-colored clothes can resolve the issue of having "no support." In summer, a mint green thin cardigan can be chosen, while in winter, a dark brown coat is suitable. For those whose destiny avoids the earth element, a burgundy lucky shirt is more appropriate. Avoid fiery red and purple, watery dark blue and black (in poorly lit offices), as well as fluorescent or bright red colors.
- Material Selection: It is advisable to choose cotton or linen materials. Synthetic, reflective fabrics can easily bounce away good luck, while cotton and linen materials are natural and simple, aligning with the harmony and stability pursued in Feng Shui, helping to create a good aura.
- Hanging Method and Quantity: Clothes should be neatly draped over the back of the chair, preferably covering the entire back to better form a "backer" posture. If the chair back is too low, a matching cushion can be added to enhance support. In terms of the number of clothes, two main colors are sufficient. Avoid creating a color palette or hanging too many to form a "pressing" posture, which may cause psychological pressure and affect work performance.
Practical Reasons for Use
- Convenience for Retrieval: When briefly leaving the seat to get a drink of water or chat with colleagues, there is no need to frequently walk to the wardrobe or coat rack to hang or retrieve clothes. Hanging them directly on the chair saves time and allows for easy putting on or taking off.
- Space Utilization: Office space is limited. If there are not enough wardrobes or hooks to hang clothes, the chair becomes a temporary hanging place.
- Indication of Work Status: Hanging clothes on the chair may imply being busy or ready to engage in work at any time, as if ready to get up and handle various tasks without planning to leave the seat for a long time.
- Formation of Work Atmosphere: In certain specific office environments, everyone has the habit of hanging clothes on chairs, gradually forming an unwritten culture that represents a casual and relaxed work atmosphere. However, hanging clothes on the back of office chairs violates the 5S management standards and affects overall cleanliness.
