Office Chair Cleaning Standards
Admin October 09, 2026
The cleaning standards for office chairs vary depending on the material and components, as detailed below:

Overall Wiping Process:
When cleaning, follow a top-to-bottom sequence, wiping the backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and legs in order to ensure nothing is missed. The cloth used should be slightly damp but not dripping wet to avoid moisture retention that could lead to dampness or water stains. This process is suitable for office chairs of all materials and serves as a basic cleaning step.
Wheel Cleaning:
- Disassembly and Debris Removal: Most wheels are designed with snap-on mechanisms and can be disassembled without tools; if the snaps are tight, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to gently pry the edges. After disassembly, use tweezers to remove debris such as long hair strands and carpet fibers from the gaps, operating in the direction of wheel rotation.
- Cleaning and Drying: Dip an old toothbrush in a small amount of neutral detergent and gently scrub the wheel surface and bearing gaps; when rinsing with water, avoid the bearing area to prevent water damage. After rinsing, use a dry cloth to wipe off the moisture and let it air dry in a ventilated area for 10 minutes.
- Lubrication and Installation: After drying, apply 1-2 drops of office equipment-specific lubricant to the bearings and rotate the wheels to distribute the lubricant evenly. When installing, align with the bracket snaps and gently push until you hear a 'click' to confirm it is secure. Finally, push the chair to test its smoothness; if there is still stuttering, check for residual debris.
Cleaning Points for Office Chairs of Different Materials:
- Mesh Office Chairs: First, use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust. Dilute the cleaning agent and spray it on the surface. After letting it sit for a while, use a sauna machine and a high-temperature cleaning machine alternately to suction wash at least twice, while using a water suction machine to dry the moisture and speed up the drying process.
- PU Material Office Chairs: For daily cleaning, use a damp cloth to gently wipe away stains; for deep maintenance, leather cleaner or polish can be used.
- Genuine Leather Office Chairs: New chairs should be coated with a protective film using maintenance wax; avoid direct water washing for daily cleaning; the frequency of regular maintenance is once a month, which can be increased to once a week in summer when sweating is more frequent.
- Fabric Office Chairs: Gently wipe with a cleaning agent or wipe with warm water + cleaning agent; do not use brushes to prevent damage to the fabric.
- Solid Wood Office Chairs: For daily cleaning, use a dry cloth to gently wipe; a small amount of cleaning agent can be used; avoid wiping with a damp cloth (such as a cloth used to wipe tables), and do not expose to direct sunlight after wiping to prevent cracking or deformation.
