Office Chair Cleaning Recommendations

Admin October 10, 2026

For cleaning office chairs, you can refer to the following methods, which are divided into three parts: caster cleaning, seat surface cleaning, and daily maintenance:

Caster cleaning needs to be divided into two situations: dealing with hair entanglement and cleaning dirt. If the casters are entangled with hair, you can use a three-step disassembly and cleaning method: First, turn the office chair upside down, hold the caster bracket with your hand, and gently pull the caster outwards (most are snap-on designs and do not require tools; if they are tightly stuck, you can use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap-on to remove it). Second, use tweezers to pick out long hairs and carpet fibers from the gaps along the direction of caster rotation. Then, use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently brush the surface of the caster and the bearing gaps to remove residual dust and oil stains. Finally, rinse the caster with clean water (avoid getting water into the bearings), wipe it dry with a dry cloth, and let it air dry for 10 minutes. Drop 1-2 drops of special lubricating oil for office equipment at the bearing, rotate the caster to evenly distribute the lubricating oil, align the caster with the bracket snap-on, and push it in until you hear a "click" to confirm that it is firmly installed. Turn the chair back upright and push it to test the smoothness. If you only need to clean dirt, you can prepare a used face towel, wet it and let it air dry slightly. Wrap the side with a bumpy texture around the wheel, secure it with a rubber band, sit on the chair, and move the chair back and forth to transfer the dirt on the wheel to the face towel. Repeat this process several times until the wheel is clean, and finally wipe the floor with a cloth.

Seat surface cleaning requires selecting mild detergents according to the material. For fabric seat surfaces, you can use a mild fabric cleaner with no irritating odor and that is gentle on the hands. Simply spray it on the stains, let it sit for a while, and then wipe it off with a clean cloth. If the seat surface is made of leather, avoid using cleaners containing alcohol or strong corrosives. You can choose a special leather cleaner and wipe it with a soft cloth. After cleaning, use a dry cloth to absorb the residual moisture to prevent water stains from penetrating and causing the leather to crack.

Daily maintenance requires regular cleaning and upkeep. It is recommended to clean the office chair once a month, focusing on checking whether the caster bearings are stuck and adding lubricating oil in a timely manner. Avoid placing heavy objects on the casters to prevent bearing deformation from affecting smoothness. When not in use for a long time, place the chair in a dry and well-ventilated place to prevent metal parts from rusting or fabric from getting moldy due to a humid environment.
