Office Chair Cleaning Methods

Admin October 12, 2026

Office chair cleaning requires targeted methods based on different components and materials, as follows:

I. Cleaning of the seat surface, backrest, and other parts

  1. Regular wiping process: Wipe from top to bottom in the order of the backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and legs to ensure no areas are missed. The cloth should be slightly damp but not dripping to avoid water stains from residual moisture. This method is suitable for hard surface materials such as leather and plastic.
  2. Deep cleaning of mesh materials: Dirt on mesh chairs tends to hide within the fibers and requires a step-by-step approach:
    • Comprehensive dusting: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust and debris from crevices, preventing the spread of stains.
    • Brushing and pre-treatment: Gently brush the mesh surface with a soft-bristled brush and pre-treat stubborn stains (such as oil and sweat stains) with a neutral cleaner.
    • Water circulation cleaning: Inject clean water through professional equipment for circulating rinsing to thoroughly remove deep-seated dirt.
    • Steam disinfection: Use high-temperature steam to penetrate the fibers, killing bacteria and eliminating odors.
  3. Treatment of fixed fiber materials: For fabric or synthetic fiber materials, first spray a professional foam cleaner, allow it to fully penetrate, and then treat with a high-temperature steam device to both disinfect and restore fiber elasticity.

II. Cleaning and maintenance of casters

  1. Handling hair entanglement: Carefully cut away entangled hair with fine-tipped scissors, avoiding damage to the wheel structure. This step requires patience to prevent the scissors from scratching the wheel body.
  2. Dirt cleaning techniques:
    • Moisten a used facial cloth and let it air dry to retain moderate moisture.
    • Wrap the wheel with the textured side of the facial cloth and secure it with a rubber band.
    • Sit on the chair and move back and forth, using friction to transfer dirt onto the facial cloth. Repeat until clean.
  3. Anti-dirt maintenance advice: Stick invisible tape on the wheel surface, keeping the tape wrinkled to increase friction. This reduces dirt adhesion and prevents the wheels from being too slippery for use. Replace the tape regularly to maintain effectiveness.

Precautions: Before cleaning, confirm the material of the office chair and avoid using corrosive cleaners (such as strong acid or alkali solutions). Mesh chairs should be thoroughly dried after cleaning to prevent mildew; leather chairs require regular application of maintenance oil to maintain their luster. Regular cleaning (recommended once a month) can extend the lifespan of the office chair and ensure hygiene and safety.
