Office Chair Cleaning Guide

Admin October 12, 2026

Cleaning an office chair should be done according to its material and the specific dirt conditions. Here are the specific methods:

I. Caster Cleaning

  1. Hair Entanglement Handling:
    • If the casters are entangled with hair, use small scissors or tweezers to clean them one by one, or disassemble the rollers (mostly snap-on designs), use tweezers to remove the hair, and then use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to scrub the bearing gaps to avoid residue affecting smooth sliding.
    • Pay attention to the snap-on structure when disassembling to avoid damage from excessive force.
  2. Surface Dirt Cleaning:
    • Wet a used facial towel and wrap it around the wheels, secure it with a rubber band, and move the chair back and forth to transfer the dirt to the facial towel, suitable for daily light stains.
    • Or use invisible tape to stick to the wheel surface (avoid sticking too flat), and complete cleaning in 1 minute, suitable for quickly handling dust or fine particles.

II. Seat Surface Material Cleaning

  1. Fabric Office Chairs:
    • For ordinary stains, use a soft cloth dipped in neutral soapy water to gently wipe, avoiding the use of strong alkaline cleaners that can harden the material.
    • For stubborn stains, sprinkle baking soda and let it sit for 15 minutes, then clean with a vacuum cleaner, or machine wash removable fabric covers according to the label instructions (confirm the material supports machine washing in advance).
  2. Leather Office Chairs:
    • First, remove dust with a soft cloth or vacuum cleaner, then gently wipe with a special cleaner or a 1:1 diluted white vinegar solution (test in a hidden area first to avoid fading or corrosion).
    • For oil stains or ink marks, use a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of alcohol to quickly wipe, then apply a conditioner to prevent cracking, controlling the amount of alcohol to avoid damaging the surface.
  3. Mesh Office Chairs:
    • Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to clean dust from the mesh to avoid blocking the air vents.
    • For stains, gently scrub with a soft brush dipped in soapy water, wipe with a damp cloth, and then dry with a dry cloth, avoiding exposure to sunlight to prevent fading or deformation.

III. General Maintenance Suggestions

  1. After cleaning, place the office chair in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally, avoiding exposure to sunlight or high-temperature drying to prevent material aging.
  2. Avoid scrubbing the surface vigorously, and do not wipe wooden or iron footrests directly with a damp cloth; instead, use a dry cloth to remove dust and then apply special maintenance oil.
  3. Regularly check if the screws and springs are loose, and tighten them promptly if they are to prevent abnormal noises or damage during use.
  4. Clean the casters monthly and apply 1-2 drops of special lubricant for maintenance to extend their service life and maintain smooth sliding.
