Office Chair Cleaning DIY
Admin October 12, 2026
Office chair cleaning DIY can adopt targeted methods according to different components and materials. The specific operations are as follows:

I. Caster Cleaning
- Hair Entanglement Handling: Casters are prone to hair entanglement. Use small scissors to cut along the direction of entanglement one by one to avoid direct pulling that may damage the wheels. If there is a lot of hair, you can first use tweezers to pick up some of it and then clean it with scissors.
- Dirt Cleaning: Soak a used facial towel and let it air-dry until slightly damp. Wrap the wheel with the textured side of the towel, secure it with a rubber band, and then move the chair back and forth repeatedly. Use the friction to transfer the dirt to the facial towel. This method can prevent water stains from remaining and causing the wheels to rust.
- Anti-dirt Tips: Wrap the wheels with invisible tape. The width of the tape should cover the surface of the wheels, and the stickiness should be moderate to avoid leaving glue when torn off. Regularly replacing the tape can reduce dirt adhesion and prevent the wheels from sliding out of control due to excessive smoothness.
II. Mesh Office Chair Cleaning
- Vacuuming: Use a vacuum cleaner equipped with a soft-bristle brush head to gently vacuum away dust and particles along the texture direction of the mesh to avoid scratching the mesh. If there is a lot of dust, you can first lightly pat the surface with a dry towel to loosen the stains.
- Spraying Cleaner: Dilute a neutral cleaner in a 1:10 ratio and spray it on the chair, focusing on the stained areas. Leave it for 5-10 minutes to allow the stains to decompose. Avoid using strong acid or strong alkali cleaners to prevent the mesh from aging.
- High-temperature Extraction: Use a steam cleaner or a high-temperature washing machine (with the temperature controlled below 60ยฐC) to extract at least twice alternately. The high temperature can kill bacteria and dissolve deep-seated dirt. Keep the machine about 10cm away from the mesh during extraction to prevent local overheating and deformation.
- Drying: Quickly dry the washed chair with a water absorber or a dry towel to prevent water from penetrating and causing the internal metal parts to rust. If conditions are limited, you can use an electric fan to speed up the drying process.
- Protection Measures: After cleaning, you can put a breathable chair cover on the chair to protect the mesh and beautify the office environment.
III. Cleaning of Office Chairs with Other Materials
- Fabric Chairs: Gently wipe the stained areas with a damp towel. For heavier dirt, you can locally clean it with a diluted neutral cleaner. After cleaning, be sure to wipe off the moisture with a dry towel to prevent mildew.
- Leather Chairs: Use a soft towel to dip a small amount of water to wipe away the dust. For stains, gently wipe with a damp towel and then immediately dry the moisture. Let it air-dry naturally. Avoid exposure to the sun or using a hairdryer to prevent the leather from cracking.
- Solid Wood Chairs: Wipe the dust with a dry towel and clean the gaps with a cotton swab. For oil stains, apply a small amount of neutral cleaner and then clean it with an appropriate amount of water. After drying, place it in a well-ventilated place to prevent mildew. Regularly maintain it with wood wax oil to extend its service life.
