Cleaning Office Chairs at Home

Admin October 11, 2026

When cleaning office chairs at home, choose the appropriate method based on the material and the degree of dirt. Details are as follows:

Mesh-fabric office chairs: For daily dust, use a vacuum cleaner with a soft-bristle brush attachment to remove dust and prevent accumulation. For common stains (such as coffee or milk tea), dilute a neutral detergent in warm water, dip a soft cloth into the solution, and gently wipe the stained area. Be careful not to rub too hard to avoid deforming the mesh. After wiping, use a clean damp cloth to remove any remaining detergent, and then place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry completely before use.

Leather office chairs: Before cleaning, use a dry cloth to wipe away surface dust and keep the leather clean. For stubborn stains, use a dedicated leather cleaner or diluted mild soapy water. Wipe along the grain of the leather with a soft cloth, avoiding wiping against the grain to prevent damage. After wiping, use a clean damp cloth to remove any remaining cleaner, and then use a dry cloth to absorb moisture and prevent the leather from getting damp and deforming. Do not use strong corrosive cleaners such as alcohol or gasoline, as these substances can damage the surface structure of the leather, causing it to crack and fade.

Fabric office chairs (linen, velvet, etc.): If the stain area is large and the cover is removable, machine or hand wash according to the washing instructions on the label. If the cover is not removable, spray a foam cleaner onto the stain, let it sit for a few minutes to allow the cleaner to fully penetrate the stain, and then gently scrub with a soft-bristle brush, avoiding excessive force that could damage the fabric fibers. After scrubbing, use a damp towel to wipe away the foam, and then place the chair in a shaded area to dry. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the fabric to fade and harden.

General cleaning tips: Regularly use a vacuum cleaner to clean dust from the crevices of office chairs to reduce the frequency of deep cleaning. For stubborn oil stains or fruit juice stains, sprinkle baking soda on the stain and let it sit for half an hour. The adsorptive property of baking soda can break down some of the stains, and then wiping will yield better results. After cleaning, ensure the chair is completely dry to prevent bacteria growth in a humid environment or damage to the material.
