Office Chair Cleaning and Refurbishing

Admin October 13, 2026

Office chair cleaning and refurbishing should be carried out in two stages: cleaning and refurbishing. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

I. Cleaning Steps

  1. Material-Specific Cleaning

    • Genuine Leather: Wipe surface dust with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using rough tools or chemical solvents to prevent the leather from cracking. For stubborn stains, lightly dab with a small amount of specialized leather cleaner and then absorb residual moisture with a dry cloth.
    • Mesh Fabric: First, use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove dust from all areas, including crevices. Then, spray a specialized cleaning agent and gently brush the stained areas with a soft-bristled or fine-bristled toothbrush, avoiding excessive force that could deform the mesh. After cleaning, absorb moisture with facial tissues and dry the chair in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight to prevent mesh aging. Some processes can include a high-temperature equipment disinfection step.
    • PU Material: Wipe surface stains with a damp cloth. For deeper stains, use a leather cleaner or polish for thorough cleaning, and then dry with a cloth.
  2. Deep Cleaning Process
For stubborn stains or chairs that have not been cleaned for a long time, a systematic approach is required:

    • Brushing: Use a soft-bristled brush to remove surface dust.
    • Pretreatment: Spray a specialized pretreatment agent on heavy stains (such as oil or ink) and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
    • Water Circulation Cleaning: Rinse the surface with low-pressure water flow to prevent moisture from penetrating the internal structure.
    • Steam Deep Cleaning and Disinfection: Use high-temperature steam equipment to thoroughly disinfect chair surfaces, backrests, and other areas, killing bacteria and mites.

II. Refurbishing Steps

  1. Complete Disassembly and Cleaning
Use a screwdriver to remove the seat, backrest, and armrests, separating detachable components. Wipe metal or plastic frames with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral cleaner. For stubborn stains, use alcohol wipes. Rinse mesh seats with low-pressure water from a showerhead, dry them, and then reassemble.

  2. Replacing Damaged Parts

    • Gas Lift: Invert the chair and lightly tap the bottom of the old gas lift with a rubber mallet to loosen it before pulling it out. When installing a new gas lift, ensure the interface is aligned to prevent air leaks. Note: Gas lifts pose an explosion risk; always wear safety goggles when disassembling.
    • Wheels: Simply pull out and insert replacements. It is recommended to choose silent casters for an improved user experience.
    • Leather Seat Surface: If severely damaged and not worth repairing, purchase an elastic chair cover online for a quick, attractive solution.
  3. Function Adjustment and Touch-Up

    • After assembly, adjust the height and tilt functions to ensure smooth operation.
    • Apply anti-rust paint to scratched metal frames to prevent rusting.
    • For scratches on plastic parts, use a hot air gun to lightly heat them (temperature controlled below 60ยฐC) to fade the scratches.

III. Precautions

  • Material Compatibility: Choose tools and cleaners based on the material during cleaning to avoid damage from mixing.
  • Safety Protection: Wear safety goggles and gloves during refurbishing to prevent skin burns from cleaners or high-temperature steam.
  • Environmental Requirements: Dry the chair in a well-ventilated area after cleaning to prevent mold growth in humid environments.
