Office Chair Cleaning and Packaging

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair cleaning and packaging should be done by cleaning first and then packaging. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Cleaning
Wipe off dust and stains from the surface of the chair with a dry cloth or rag, focusing on cleaning the armrests, backrests, and other parts to prevent residual stains from contaminating the packaging materials.

II. Packaging

  1. Preparation

    • Materials and Tools: Prepare materials based on whether the chair needs to be disassembled. The core protective materials include bubble wrap (for cushioning and shock absorption when wrapping the chair body, backrest, legs, etc.), stretch wrap (for outer-layer fixation to prevent dust and dirt), wrapping paper/old newspapers (for protecting parts that are easily scratched), cardboard boxes (recommended sizes: 60x40x50cm or 50x40x40cm), dust covers/disposable tablecloths (for lining the inside of the cardboard boxes to prevent dust and water); fastening tools include wide tape (for sealing the cardboard boxes and fixing edges), parts bags (for storing small parts like screws), markers and label paper (for marking parts); auxiliary tools such as rubber hammers (for disassembling tight parts like gas rods).
    • Determine Whether to Disassemble:
      • Packaging Without Disassembly: Suitable for scenarios where the moving passage and transportation vehicle have ample space, the chair has a simple structure or is complex to disassemble, and efficiency is pursued. Simply wrap the entire chair with multiple layers of bubble wrap and stretch wrap.
      • Packaging After Disassembly: Suitable for scenarios where the moving space is limited (such as narrow staircases, small elevators), the chair has a high value or a precise structure, and long-distance transportation or long-term storage is required. The simple decision-making process is to evaluate the moving space → examine the structural complexity → consider the chair's value → weigh the time. If two or more of the first three items require careful protection, disassembly is recommended.
  2. Core Operations

    • Disassembly Process: Follow the order of “from the outside in, from top to bottom, and reverse assembly”. Lay the chair down on a soft surface (such as a blanket), unscrew the screws connecting the backrest to the seat cushion and the armrests to the seat cushion, separate the backrest, armrests, gas rod, base, and wheels (if detachable), classify and place the parts, and use small plastic bags or cardboard boxes to package small parts like screws separately.
  3. Wrap and Protect Each Part

    • Wooden/Leather Parts: Wrap them with 2-3 layers of pearl cotton (focusing on protecting the edges and corners), and then fix them with stretch wrap to prevent scratches and moisture.
    • Metal Parts: Wrap them with 1-2 layers of bubble wrap to prevent scratches on the paint surface.
    • Glass/Fragile Parts: Wrap the edges and corners with additional foam blocks, cover them with bubble wrap, and mark them as “fragile”.
    • Non-detachable Whole Chair: Wrap the entire chair with more than 3 layers of bubble wrap, add foam blocks to the edges and corners, and then place it in a cardboard box.
  4. Boxing and Fixation

    • Bottom Lining: Line the bottom of the cardboard box with 2-3 layers of bubble wrap or foam boards to cushion against vibrations.
    • Place the Main Body: Place the largest part (such as the seat cushion) in the center and fill the gaps around it with foam blocks.
    • Stack Parts: Place the backrest, armrests, etc. in sequence, put the bag of small parts in the gaps, and then cover the top with bubble wrap.
    • Fix the Cardboard Box: Seal the box with tape in a cross pattern (2-3 strips horizontally and vertically each) to ensure the box cover fits tightly.
  5. Box Sealing and Marking

    • Mark Information: Use a marker to mark words such as “furniture”, “fragile”, “this side up”, and “do not press” on the side of the cardboard box, and indicate the number of parts (such as “including 8 screws”).
    • Weigh and Record: If transportation is required, weigh and record the weight for easy logistics quotation.

III. Precautions

  • When storing for a long time, cover the cardboard box with a waterproof bag to prevent moisture.
  • When moving, label the box as “fragile” or “valuable” to remind people to handle it with care; for heavy chairs, it is recommended that two people carry them to distribute the weight evenly and prevent sideways tipping. Do not use the armrests as the point of force; measure the size of large chairs before moving and plan the route.
