Cleaning of Office Chairs

Admin October 22, 2026

Cleaning office chairs requires targeted methods based on different components and materials. Here are the specific steps:

1. Cleaning the Casters

  • Dealing with Hair Entanglement: If the casters are entangled with hair, you can use small scissors to cut each strand, but this method is time-consuming. A more efficient approach is the 'three-step disassembly cleaning method': First, turn the office chair upside down and hold the caster bracket with your hand to pull out the casters (if they are stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the buckle). After removal, check for trapped hair and debris, and use tweezers to pull out long hair or carpet fibers from the gaps along the direction of caster rotation. Finally, use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to scrub the surface of the casters and the gaps in the bearings. Rinse with clean water, dry with a dry cloth, and ventilate for 10 minutes (avoid getting water into the bearings).
  • Cleaning Dirt: After dealing with the hair, dampen a used facial cloth and let it air dry, then use its textured surface to rub the surface of the wheels. Alternatively, wrap the wheels with the facial cloth and secure it with a rubber band, then sit on the chair and move back and forth to transfer the dirt to the facial cloth. Repeat the operation until clean, and finally wipe the floor residue with a cloth.
  • Subsequent Protection: Wrap the wheels with invisible tape, with an appropriate width and moderate stickiness. Keep the surface slightly wrinkled when sticking to increase friction and prevent the wheels from being too slippery. This method is simple and can be completed in less than 1 minute.

2. Overall Chair Wiping Follow the 'top-to-bottom' order to clean the backrest, seat cushion, armrests, and chair legs one by one, ensuring no omission. The cloth should be slightly damp and not dripping to prevent water stains or material moisture damage. For stubborn stains, choose a cleaning agent according to the surface material: For leather parts, use a special leather cleaner; for plastic or metal parts, use a neutral detergent. Avoid using strong acid or alkali solutions that may damage the surface.

3. Cleaning Mesh Office Chairs Mesh materials easily absorb dust into the interior and require deep cleaning:

  • Brushing: Use a soft-bristled brush to lightly brush the surface to remove floating dust.
  • Pre-treatment: Spray a neutral cleaner on local stains and let it sit for 5 minutes to soften the dirt.
  • Spot Treatment: Use a damp cloth dipped in the cleaner to repeatedly wipe the stained area.
  • Water Circulation Cleaning: Use low-pressure water to rinse the mesh, avoiding high pressure that may damage the fabric structure.
  • Steam Disinfection: Use a steam cleaner to sterilize the mesh at high temperature and remove residual moisture. After cleaning, dry thoroughly to prevent mildew.

Precautions: Before cleaning, confirm the material of the office chair (such as leather, mesh, plastic, etc.) to avoid using incompatible cleaners; keep the area ventilated after cleaning to speed up drying.
