Child Falls Due to Office Chair Damage
Admin October 16, 2026
If a child falls due to damage to an office chair, it is necessary to determine the responsible party and the scope of compensation based on the specific circumstances, and properly handle the injury and compensation claims.

I. Determination of Responsible Parties
- Production or Design Defects: If the office chair is damaged and causes a fall due to production or design defects (such as unstable structure or easily detachable components), the manufacturer or seller shall be held responsible.
- Public Place Management Responsibility: If the chair is located in a public place such as a school or shopping mall, and is damaged due to the manager's failure to repair it in a timely manner or to set up warning signs, the manager shall be held responsible for the lack of safety guarantee obligations.
- Improper Use Responsibility: If the fall is caused by the child climbing or shaking the chair on their own or by others' intentional destruction, the responsibility ratio shall be divided according to the specific actions.
II. Injury Handling Procedures
- Initial Inspection: Parents should calmly observe the child's consciousness and mobility to confirm whether there are serious symptoms such as coma, severe pain, or limb deformities.
- Tiered Handling:
- No Major Issues: Calm the child's emotions, emphasize safety precautions, and prevent them from coming into contact with dangerous objects again.
- Superficial Wounds: Rinse the wound with clean water or physiological saline, disinfect it with iodophor, and cover it with sterile gauze to prevent infection.
- Suspected Fracture: Immediately immobilize the injured part (such as using cardboard or books for simple immobilization), avoid moving the child, and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
- Subsequent Observation: Apply ice to the injured part within 24 hours (15-20 minutes each time, with an interval of 1-2 hours) to reduce swelling; if there is increased redness and swelling, fever, or persistent pain, seek a follow-up consultation to rule out deep tissue damage.
III. Compensation Claim Procedures and Scope
- Scope of Compensation: Includes direct expenses such as medical expenses, nursing expenses, transportation expenses, nutrition expenses, and hospital meal allowances; if parents incur lost work time due to accompanying the child, they can claim compensation; if disability or mental damage is caused, additional compensation for disability compensation and mental damage consolation shall be required.
- Compensation Claim Steps:
- Fix Evidence: Keep medical records, expense lists, on-site photos (such as the damaged part of the chair and the location of the fall), surveillance videos, etc..
- Negotiate a Settlement: Communicate with the responsible party (manufacturer, seller, manager, or direct infringer) to clarify the compensation items and amounts.
- Legal Channels: If negotiation fails, file a lawsuit with the court, submit evidence materials, and apply for disability appraisal if necessary.
Tip: During the handling process, prioritize the child's health and avoid delaying treatment due to compensation claims; if the responsible party is unclear, consult a lawyer or seek help from the consumer association.
