Office Chair Certification

Admin October 09, 2026

Common certifications for office chairs mainly include BIFMA certification and China Green Product Certification.

BIFMA Certification: This is an important certification introduced by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) in the United States, with extensive influence in the office furniture sector. Founded in 1973, BIFMA represents 80% of the North American office furniture market. The office furniture testing standards it has developed have been adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), forming the ANSI/BIFMA series of specifications. For example, the ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 standard covers more than 20 technical requirements, including rotation tests and tilt mechanism fatigue tests. These test items are comprehensive and rigorous, evaluating the quality and performance of office chairs from various aspects. By passing these tests, the stability and durability of office chairs during use can be ensured, safeguarding the safety of users. In addition, BIFMA has also launched the BIFMA Compliant compliance program and the LEVEL sustainability certification project. Among them, the LEVEL certification conducts graded evaluations of products from three dimensions: environmental impact, physical and mental health, and social responsibility, with three levels: SILVER, GOLD, and PLATINUM. This certification not only focuses on the quality of the product itself but also emphasizes the product's impact on the environment and society throughout its entire lifecycle, encouraging companies to produce office chairs that are more environmentally friendly, healthier, and socially responsible.

China Green Product Certification: This certification is applicable to all types of furniture, including office chairs. Its certification model consists of initial inspection + product sampling inspection + post-certification supervision. The certification process includes steps such as certification application, initial inspection, product sampling inspection, certification result evaluation and approval, and post-certification supervision, with the entire process generally not exceeding 90 days. By obtaining this certification, it can be proven that office chairs meet environmental protection requirements during production, use, and disposal, have a relatively small impact on the environment, and also ensure the quality and safety of the products, providing consumers with greener and healthier choices.
