Admin October 08, 2026

Office chairs are chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities. They come in various types, functions, fabrics, and have considerations for purchase, and also have some quality issues.

Types and Functions

Office chairs can be classified into work chairs, student chairs, computer chairs, medium-back chairs, high-back chairs, conference chairs, chess and card chairs, etc., based on usage scenarios and design features. In terms of functions, they can be divided into ordinary computer chairs and ergonomic computer chairs. Ergonomic computer chairs adopt ergonomic design, with adjustable headrests, armrests, backrests, and lifting functions, etc., which can effectively relieve fatigue from prolonged sitting.

Fabrics and Materials

The fabrics of office chairs cover materials such as hemp, mesh, and leather. Hemp fabric has good breathability and is suitable for long-term use; mesh fabric has excellent elasticity and can provide good support; leather fabric has a good texture but relatively poor breathability. The chair legs include nylon and aluminum alloy structures, which need to meet load-bearing and durability standards to ensure safety during use.

Purchase Considerations

When purchasing an office chair, it is necessary to consider whether the adjustment functions match one's own needs. For example, 3D armrests are the gold standard and can meet usage requirements in different directions; the type of chassis affects the reclining experience. A mechanical chassis is suitable for those who do not often use the reclining function, while a linear gravity-sensing chassis is suitable for those who like to recline or need to share the chair with family members.

Quality Issues

Office chairs have some quality issues. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada issued a recall for office chairs made in China due to the risk of the backrest breaking, which could lead to falls. Twelve reports had been received, including ten injuries. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation conducted a national supervision and inspection of office chairs and found that 15 batches of products were unqualified, with stability issues being prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States issued a recall for WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China due to the risk of bolt failure, which could lead to falls. Seven reports had been received, including two minor injuries. Therefore, when purchasing and using office chairs, it is important to pay attention to product quality and safety.
