Office Chair Casters Care & Maintenance Guide
The maintenance of office chair casters should focus on cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and replacement to extend their service life and ensure safety during use.

1. Regular Cleaning
Office chair casters tend to accumulate dust, hair, and debris, which can cause poor rotation or jamming over time. It is recommended to clean the surface and crevices of the casters weekly using a soft-bristled brush or dry cloth, avoiding sharp tools that may scratch the wheels. If small foreign objects (such as threads or paper scraps) get stuck in the casters, they can be carefully removed with tweezers. For stubborn stains, use a slightly damp soft cloth with a small amount of neutral detergent, and immediately dry it with a dry cloth to prevent moisture from seeping into the bearings and causing rust.
2. Periodic Lubrication
The smooth rotation of the casters depends on the lubrication of the internal bearings. If there is abnormal noise or sticking during rotation, it indicates a lack of oil in the bearings. Special lubricants (such as sewing machine oil or silicone-based lubricants) can be used. Remove the casters from the chair legs, drop 2-3 drops of lubricant into the bearing gaps, slowly rotate the casters several times to distribute the oil evenly, and finally wipe off any excess oil with a dry cloth. It is recommended to lubricate every 3-6 months, depending on the frequency of use and environmental humidity.
3. Inspection and Replacement
Regularly inspect the casters for cracks, deformation, or wear. If there are obvious scratches on the surface, the plastic has aged and become brittle, or there is severe wobbling during rotation, they should be replaced promptly. When replacing, choose products that match the specifications of the original casters (such as diameter, wheel width, and load-bearing capacity) to avoid installation instability or damage to the chair legs due to mismatched sizes. Some casters have a quick-release design and can be removed by pressing the clips directly; for fixed types, use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws before replacement.
4. Optimization of Usage Environment
Avoid prolonged use on rough surfaces (such as concrete floors or carpet seams) to reduce wear on the casters. If there are water stains or oil stains on the floor, clean them promptly to prevent the casters from slipping or corroding. When not in use for a long time, invert the chair or use a chair cover to protect the casters and reduce dust accumulation.
