Office Chair Caster Wheels
Admin October 12, 2026
The disassembly, installation, types, functions, and physical principles of office chair caster wheels are as follows:

Disassembly Methods
Office chair caster wheels mainly come in two types: stem-mounted and screw-mounted, with disassembly methods varying by type:
- Stem-mounted wheels: Simply pull them out by hand. If they are stuck due to long-term use, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg to pry, or use pliers to grip the stem and tap it lightly with a hammer to loosen the wheel before pulling it out.
- Screw-mounted wheels: Use a screwdriver or wrench to unscrew the fixing screws, then remove the wheels from the chair legs.
Installation Methods
The installation of new wheels depends on their type:
- Stem-mounted wheels: Align the metal stem of the wheel with the hole on the chair leg and press vertically until fully inserted. If the hole is tight, sit on the chair and use your body weight to complete the installation.
- Screw-mounted wheels: Align the wheel with the hole and tighten the fixing screws with a screwdriver.
Types and Materials
- Structural Types: Most wheels are designed as casters, allowing 360-degree rotation to enhance mobility flexibility.
- Material Differences:
- Rubber wheels: Offer good noise reduction and are suitable for wooden or tiled floors, but have average wear resistance.
- Nylon wheels: Are hard and highly wear-resistant, but may generate noise.
- Polyurethane wheels: Exhibit excellent overall performance, combining noise reduction, wear resistance, and anti-static properties, but are more expensive.
Functional Characteristics
The functions of the wheels are closely related to their materials:
- Noise Reduction: Rubber or polyurethane materials reduce friction noise during movement.
- Wear Resistance: Nylon or polyurethane wheels have a longer lifespan and are suitable for high-frequency use scenarios.
- Anti-Static: Wheels with special coatings prevent static buildup and are suitable for electronic equipment environments.
Physical Principles
The design of the wheels is based on two core physical principles:
- Rolling Friction Instead of Sliding Friction: By converting the sliding friction between the chair legs and the ground into rolling friction of the wheels, resistance is significantly reduced, making movement more effortless.
- Pressure Dispersion: The wheels increase the contact area with the ground, reducing the pressure per unit area, preventing the chair legs from sinking into soft surfaces (such as carpets), and enhancing comfort during use.
Price Range
The price of wheels varies greatly depending on specifications and brands: Basic models start at around 1.61 yuan, while high-end noise-reducing or anti-static models can cost hundreds of yuan. It is recommended to choose based on the usage scenario and budget.
