Office Chair Caster Sliding

Admin October 12, 2026

Problems with the sliding of office chair casters can be improved through the evaluation of testing equipment and the replacement of special wheel bodies or accessories.

Common Issues with Caster Sliding

As a core component for daily movement, office chair casters are subjected to multiple loads, including human body weight, ground friction, and steering torsion, when frequently pushed, pulled, and moved in office and e-sports scenarios. Long-term use can easily lead to problems such as wheel body wear and cracking, bearing jamming, bracket deformation, caster detachment, and sliding noise, directly affecting the user experience. For example, PU wheels may experience surface delamination due to friction-generated heat, nylon wheels may leave scratches on hard floors, and bearing lubrication failure can cause increased rotational resistance.

Caster Sliding Life Testing Equipment

To evaluate caster performance, companies use office chair caster life testing machines for durability testing. These machines adhere to standards such as GB/T 10357, QB/T 2280, and BIFMA, testing the abrasion resistance, bearing durability, and structural strength of casters by simulating real-world conditions (such as different floor materials like wood, carpet, and plastic). Their core functions include:

  • Multi-parameter controllable testing: The testing machine can set sliding speed, load weight, total mileage, and cycle count, supporting uninterrupted testing for tens of thousands of kilometers to accurately screen for hidden defects such as wheel body cracking, delamination, and deformation.
  • Real-time monitoring and recording: The machine continuously observes the wear conditions of the wheel body, bracket, bearing, and snap fasteners, recording changes in sliding resistance, noise occurrence points, and detachment times to comprehensively evaluate the load-bearing strength and snap fastener locking durability of the casters.
  • Compatibility and automation: The machine is compatible with various general-purpose casters (such as PU silent wheels and nylon hard wheels), supports simultaneous testing of multiple chairs, and is equipped with a touch control adjustment system and 24-hour unmanned operation function to eliminate manual testing errors.

Solutions to Improve Sliding Problems

To address sliding jamming or noise, special functional wheel bodies can be replaced:

  • Locking wheels: For example, soft PU wheels with a diameter of 60 mm and a silent sleeve can switch between movement and fixation by flipping a switch; gravity wheels use internal mechanisms to increase resistance and reduce movement noise.
  • Fixed foot pads: The plug-and-pull design allows for temporary fixation of the chair, suitable for use scenarios involving the elderly or children.
  • Bearing hollow wheels: These wheels are wrapped in soft PU and can be locked with a button, offering both texture and stability, and are available in black and gray.
  • Large-sized wheels: For example, 65mm wheel bodies can be locked by flipping the side, and are available in white and black to adapt to different floor requirements.

By quantitatively evaluating caster performance through testing equipment and replacing them with functional wheel bodies, the sliding life can be effectively extended and user comfort improved.
