Removal of Office Chair Casters
The method for removing office chair casters depends on their specific type. Here are the removal steps for different types of casters:

Round Insert-type Casters:
These casters are inserted directly into the chair leg holes during installation and can be pulled out directly for removal. If increased friction due to long-term use makes it difficult to remove them by hand, tools can be used for assistance: Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the caster and the chair leg, and gently pry the caster to loosen it; or use pliers to grip the insert part and tap the pliers' handle lightly with a hammer, using the impact force to dislodge the caster. Be careful with the force applied to avoid damaging the chair leg or the caster.
Threaded Casters:
Threaded casters are secured to the chair legs by rotation and require a small wrench or adjustable wrench for operation. Place the wrench on the nut at the bottom of the caster and rotate it to the left (counterclockwise) to loosen the thread. Once the nut is completely detached, the caster can be removed easily. If the thread is rusty and difficult to rotate, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) and wait a moment before operating.
Snap-fit Design Casters:
Snap-fit casters are secured by internal spring clips. Turn the office chair upside down (with the seat facing down, it is recommended to place a soft cloth to protect the fabric), and hold the brackets on both sides of the caster with both hands, pulling outward evenly. If the clip is too tight, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap at the edge of the clip, pad it with a soft cloth or rubber sheet to prevent scratching the bracket, and gently pry to loosen the clip, allowing the caster to be removed.
Spring Clip Design Casters:
Spring clip casters rely on elastic spring clips on the side of the axle for fixation. To remove them, operate both the spring clip and the axle simultaneously: Hold the caster with one hand and use the thumb or palm of the other hand to press down lightly on the top of the axle while pulling the caster outward, using the spring clip's rebound force to slide it out of the sleeve; if the spring clip is too tight, use a thin, long tool (such as the tip of a key or tweezers) to press against the inner side of the spring clip through the gap on the side of the caster and pull the caster downward to detach it. Be careful to avoid scratching the axle surface with the tool during operation.
Precautions:
- It is recommended to wear gloves before operation to prevent hand injuries or scratches from the caster edges;
- If there is dust or debris at the connection between the caster and the chair leg, clean it before operation to avoid affecting the tool's force application;
- After removing the caster, check the chair leg hole or the inside of the caster for damage and replace with a new caster if necessary.
